Product Description

David Jason returns to the role as loveable rogue, Des in the hugely successful comedy drama. In 'The Pilot', trusted by inmates and prison guards alike, Des is a simple, stammering soul who wouldn't hurt a fly. Little do they know, Des has a spring in his step and twinkle in his eye that's worth millions. He's a master of disguise and being in prison is all part of his ingenious plan - Des needs the perfect alibi for the perfect crime. In 'A Royal Affair', Des breaks into the seemingly impenetrable Buckingham Palace to steal a large diamond before it is handed over to the Indian Government. Will Des manage to pull off an elaborate heist before they realise the diamond's a fake? In 'Old School Lies', Des Attempts to relieve a large financial institution of a vast amount of money after they've plundered innocent people's pension funds. Will a shooting accident prevent Des and his accomplices from achieving justice? In 'Old Gold', Des plans to steal £8 million pounds of Russian gold for the families of Russian and British secret agents who have been killed. Despite Des' good intentions, will his wrong doings finally catch up with him?

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun TV 16 Aug 2009
By M. Dowden HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This boxset of four dvds is great fun for those who like a piece of relaxing tv. Starting with the pilot episode we see David Jason pulling off some great crime capers. The stories aren't intellectually demanding but the capers are intriguing, such as when Des (David Jason) breaks out of prison to commit a robbery and then breaks back in again to cover his tracks.

Admittedly when we see Des getting into some things we are a bit worried that an old age man should be able to do such stunts but at the end of the day this is great escapism.

With Des finding his son in prison and him joining him on the first two jobs we then see Des in his preferred occupation of going it alone. From making money for himself to helping others Des is an old time pro who just can't stoppping what he does best - plus he is always one step ahead of everyone else. As well as David Jason there are some great cameo roles played by the likes of George Cole (who is a getaway driver who comes out of a old people's home to assist) and of course the ever beautiful Jenny Agutter, along with others. So if you like 'Hustle' you will appreciate the plots and if you like 'New Tricks' you will like the fact that you can just sit back and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond Geezer - Lives up to its name. 25 Mar 2010
Quite brilliant especially the first episode. The later ones were more 'chancy' and very slightly less credible but still excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE........................ 16 Sep 2009
By L. Hay VINE™ VOICE
I did not know that this series even existed until I was loaned it. To be frank, I am not a David Jason fan. I feel he is very overrated, however, I was quite impressed.
The pilot episode was not all that great. It was somewhat predictable and reminded me of that wonderful film "Two Way Stretch". The plot, without going into detail, being the same, only much better. However, as the series progresses it improves considerably.
It has a wonderful cast and although the scripts have been slated on the internet, I disagree. There were some very clever ideas.
My only criticism is that David Jason was a little long in the tooth for the part and in spite of his oftimes excellent disguises, still sounds like Del.
Overall, I would certainly watch it again.
