4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended!, 5 Jun 2006
Signed at the end of 2005 to Glasgow's Soma Records, My Robot Friend released his debut album with the label in May 2006. Having been compared to a number of artists, including Talking Heads and Kraftwerk, My Robot Friend, also known as Howard Robot, has appeared on Rolling Stone Magazine's Hot List and has supported the likes of Scissor Sisters and Le Tigre.

The album takes a start with the ever so catchy '23 Minutes In Brussels' featuring electronic musician, `Philip'. Originally by `Luna', My Robot Friend creates a whole new sound for the track with his combination of electro, pop and rock. The title track of the album is next, `Dial 0', quite a poppy track mixed with nice guitar parts.

`The Cut' is more one for the dance floor, while `The Good Part' is more of a down tempo, atmospheric track. `One More Try' brings back the pop sound and is a very upbeat and happy sounding track. It features vocalist Antony from `Antony And The Johnsons', who is a Mercury Prize Winner.

`City Sounds' samples machine sounds and alien robot voices & portrays a love for the chaotic life in New York. The party track of the album, `Swallow', features raps by `Castra Yo'. Quite a strange track, but very catchy. `Problems' is an up tempo track, again, with quite bizarre lyrics.

The part that stands out the most in the next track, `Dead', is the violin. It's played by `AutoJulie3000' and brings and eerie sound to the song. Another one for the dancefloor follows, called `Rapture', which was originally by Blondie.

`Electric Pants' brings an ending to the album. It features the very talented classical guitarist, Jay Kauffman.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, 3 Jun 2006
I needed something new to listen to. Radio 1 overplays all the well known new music and so I bought this album completely on a whim. With a slight resemblance to Fischer Spooner, but with some wackier lyrics and funkier sounds this album is well worth the buy. You can listen to it any time, for a chill out, dance or a laugh. Buy it now!!!!!
