I'm giving this a 4 for now but I'm quite prepared to go up to 5 if it works as well as I hope.

This is the first book I've read that really provides hope for medical treatment of CFS/ME, rather than just management. Dr Myhill bases her recommendations on clinical experience as well as medical theory that makes a lot of sense. There's a kind of mystique surrounding CFS/ME that means some people don't believe in it at all (as if it's a matter of faith, or 'you just need to get out a bit more' - which I was actually told tonight) while many sufferers feel their situation is completely hopeless. This book does offer hope and made me willing to try the recommendations to see how they go.

She makes the point that there are many causes of CFS and in that sense, it's a symptom, not a disease in itself. However, she posits that every CFS sufferer has damage at the cellular level from one cause or another, and this can be treated with rest, diet and supplements - although the recommended supplements vary for different cases. It's a pity that supplements are so expensive, but if there was a free miracle cure, we'd all know about it already.

Another good point about this for UK readers is that Dr Myhill is actually in the UK and (currently) accessible to be consulted and for tests, so if you have the money and can stand the thought of injecting vitamins, you could get individual tailored prescriptions depending on your test results. Fortunately she does suggest starting with the easy/cheap options first and see how you get on, as that is apparently enough for a lot of people. I'm going to try the general recommendations first but I have enough confidence after reading this that it would be worth taking it further if I don't improve.

At the start of 2014 it felt like my body was attacking itself, I was in extreme pain, I couldnt walk more than to go to the nearest shop (and that took me 20 minutes instead of the 5 minutes it took me in 2013 plus leave me in a heap on my bed). On top of this I couldnt read, write, think, or pay attetion. My memory was so bad Id repeat myself and Id find my wallet in the fridge. Some days I couldnt stand up and others I couldnt tolerate light. On the worst days all these debilitating symptoms occurred at once. Looking back I can see these were extreme symptoms of the ways Id been feeling for the last 5 years crashing together.

I bought this book in the summer and began to slowly read it, 5 or 10 minutes here or there when the brain fog allowed me to. I skimmed over the science to the practical information and I applied parts of it immediately. 3 months later Im still applying it bit my bit and Im a transformed person. I can go to the shop in under 10 minutes and do not collapse in bed afterwards, I am in 65% less pain, I can read for up to 40 minutes, I can think freely (actually more sharply than before most of the time), I repeat myself less, find my wallet on my desk again where it belongs and I am writing this review.

Applying the advice in this book is gradually changing my life and I cant recommend it highly enough to anyone else who suffers from this terrifying illness. Thank you Dr Myhill I will forever be in your debt.

If you have CFS or ME this is the book you absolutely must read. I have been suffering from CFS for over 2 years and I don't know where I would have been without this goldmine of information and guidance. I agree with everything all the other reviewers have said. what I would add is that I believe that Dr Myhill's insight that mitochondrial malfunction is often the central cause of CFS, because of the lack of ATP production, is absolutely right. That is not to say that adrenal malfunction, thyroid malfunction and digestive system issues do not also play a part but my own experience tells me that if you focus on your strategy to address the mitochondria then you have an excellent chance of improving. I have two friends who did not focus on the mitochondria and now that they are they are beginning to improve. This is what I have done and I can report that I am now definitely on the road to recovery. I would also add that Dr Myhill's experience with the doseages of Acetyl L-Carnitine, B3, Magnesium and so on are very reliable based as they are on her experience with so many patients over the years.

Apart from the value of all Dr Myhill's insights and experience, there is the simple fact that when you are in the worst period of this terrible condition, when you have had no help or encouragement from your GPs (16 in my case), you suddenly come across this book and it does that wonderful, priceless thing ........ it gives you hope and belief. Thank you Dr Myhill.

Having suffered from CFS/M.E. For 17 years this book is the answer to my prayers. It is so easy to understand for someone like me who has difficulty reading and taking information in due to the illness. Highly recommended.

Just bought this book last week and the first 2 chapters gave me renewed hope of a cure to my cfs. My gp apologised for the diagnosis and said he hoped I did not see it as a dumping ground for my symptoms. Far from it really as it has allowed me to have a definition which is not psychological and I already ordered quite a lot of the supplements. Hope is everything and this Dr gives me a good logical explanation of delayed fatigue as well as many of my other symptoms never before properly addressed.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has been diagnosed with cfs as it even gives blood tests which are appropriate not the usual twaddle ones which always come back as normal.
