Book Description

15 Sep 2011
DEZEEN BOOK OF IDEAS is a celebration of amazing ideas by the world's best creative brains.

Featuring over 100 buildings, interiors and products selected from the pages of influential design website dezeen.com, this book provides a compelling snapshot of cutting-edge creativity across every discipline.

Each entry has been comprehensively revisited for the book and is accompanied by stunning imagery, while an innovative links section allows readers to find more information about each project.

DEZEEN BOOK OF IDEAS represents the vitality both of Dezeen - which attracts a million readers each month - and the contemporary architecture and design scene.

This is one of the first examples of a website being the basis of a design book, and serves as a vibrant synopsis of a truly revolutionary period in both architecture and design, and architecture and design publishing.

More About the Author

I'm a design journalist and entrepreneur and the founder and editor-in-chief of online architecture and design magazine Dezeen (www.dezeen.com).

One of the world's most popular and influential design websites, Dezeen gets over a million unique visits every month and was named as one of the 100 most important forces in global design by both Time magazine and AD magazine.

Previously I was launch editor of international architecture and design magazine Icon, which I edited from 2003 to 2006. Before that I worked for and on a variety of publications including The Guardian, Wallpaper*, Blueprint, The Independent, Building Magazine and Building Design.

I'm the author of the best-selling book Twenty-First Century Design, first published in 2006 by Carlton Books. The first edition sold out and was reissued in June 2009. My second book, Green Design, was published in March 2009 by Carlton Books.

I edited and wrote much of Dezeen Book of Ideas, a compilation of over 100 of the most original and inspiring designs from www.dezeen.com, which was published in September 2011.

My television experience includes Profiles: Philippe Starck, which I wrote and presented for BBC4 in 2003, and numerous on-screen contributor roles in documentary series including Home (BBC2, 206) and The National Trust (Channel 4, 2004).

I have won numerous awards, including Journalist of the Year (2002), Architectural Journalist of the Year (2004), Launch of the Year for Icon magazine (2003), BSME Brand-Building Initiative of the Year (2002) and AOP Digital Business Publisher of the Year for Dezeen (2012).

I live and work in London and am married with two children. My interests include gardening, snowboarding and playing guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little insight into design concepts 11 Dec 2012
A great talking point for anyone interested in all aspects of design. By necessity, any book of this type can only skim the surface of such a vast subject, but the Dezeen Book of Ideas is exactly that; a cross section of concepts and actual designs that have made it into production. It is impossible to love all the items in the book but hey, design is so subjective anyway! Even the ones you will hate will make you think.
All in all a brilliant eye-opener, I look forward to the sequel.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly done 15 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
DeZeen is a good magazine to have as it keeps you updated as to the latest fads in fashion/architecture/interior design.
However this booklet is not keeping with the standards of quality in terms of printing. Really poor print quality and paper.

The projects are (most of them) what we see in other magazines and on websites.
DeZeen should have put out a magazine with totally new ideas or at least got a good photographer to take new and fresh angles of the same projects so that we get to see a different side of it altogether.

Useful but rather simple collection of design ideas. The regular magazine - free as an e-mag - is at least as good and less costly

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 30 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It was a gift and I thought it to be rather small. However, the recipient
is overjoyed with it and is sharing its contents with others.
