Product Description

DARKLY DREAMING DEXTER: Dexter Morgan can't stand the sight of blood. Which makes his job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami PD a little tricky. But it means that he's very tidy when it comes to his hobby: murder. After all, even though Dexter only ever kills bad people, he doesn't want to draw attention to it. But now there's another killer out there who's being a whole lot less subtle DEARLY DEVOTED DEXTER: Miami's best-dressed serial killer is getting twitchy - he hasn't killed for months. Ever since their paths first crossed, Sergeant Doakes hasn't let Dexter Morgan out of his sight. Then a body turns up, mutilated and barely alive. To trap the torturer, Doakes and Dexter will have to work together, if they can trust each other. It's a devil's pact and one of them will have to be the bait... DEXTER IN THE DARK: When Dexter is brought in to analyse a charred headless corpse, it seems he's dealing with a killer even more sinister than he is, and one with a personal interest in him. And with Dexter now having a wedding to plan and a family to protect, the stakes are high. As he realises his step-children might share his blood-lust, if he's ever to help them target it, Dexter will first have to stay alive himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Lust, 29 Jan 2009
I watched the series on TV first and was totally hooked, then I bought the book. Its a cracker just as good as the program but different and a great read. All 3 in one a great bargain and one to keep or share around. My copy is dog-eared already from good use, as it should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, different to the series which I also loved., 24 Feb 2009

(REAL NAME)
Well I bought the book and currently half way through the third book. I loved the first series and so got the book. True to form the book is different to the series which misses key aspects out. The adaptation to the series was very good nevertheless. This is a must buy for anyone who liked the series. At the end of the book you just shake you head at the black humour and the unpredictable endings. You may even find there are certain parts to Dexter which you quietly think are similar to yourself but would never tell anyone.... in a nutshell it's good.... it's very good. Buy it. It is worth every penny and more. I've still yet to buy the second series on DVD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Depressingly Disappointing Dexter, 18 Jun 2009
By Charlie Mount (West Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
I eagerly anticipated this anthology of Jeff Lindsay's dark creation Dexter's greatest hits. I am a huge fan of the TV series and, as its usually a given that the source material is a better experience than the adaptation i was sure that i was in for a treat.
Book 1 - Darkly Dreaming Dexter is very similar to series 1, but as it fed into a whole series (about 10 hours long I think!) they actually managed to add more detail than the book. Probably my biggest gripe against the whole series is this - lack of detail, it seems to skirt over events and in each book, what should have been a page turning crescendo, was in fact a bit of a rushed damp squib - that said there are some intriguing differences - the fate of detective LaGuerta being a notable example.
Book 2 - Dearly devoted Dexter. A definite step up. You can see the origins of series 2 here, but this story is much darker and macabre - clearly beyond a TV audience. It shares the same failings as above, but is more of a page turner, particularly since i had no idea how this would end as it became clear that it had diverged from the story I was familiar with.
Book 3 - Dexter in the dark. A total sea change. The same old failings, but a totally different story with a major super natural element, which, whilst interesting, I don't feel really fits in with Dexter. Having said that, with having a soft spot for the super natural, I have to say, unlike many reviewers, I enjoyed this.
In summary, don't expect the same quality as the TV series, don't expect in depth analysis of our anti-hero his motivations and his world, but do expect a set of easy to read novels with a unique approach and some dark, laugh out loud moments - I would recommend it as a filler, but be careful and set your expectations.
