Bang! etc...,
By Sleepy G "Grant" (Wales U.K) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Devout Catalyst (Audio CD)
I'll be honest...
I'd never heard of Ken Nordine and only bought it for Tom wait's contribution. BUT... I loved it form begining to end. Great voice, great words, great music. Randomness is rarely this beautiful and listenable. I feel that this is the begining of another special consumer relationship for me! -G P.S. The Tom Waits tracks are great too.

Classic Nordine - but with Jerry Garcia!,
By L. Allen - Published on Amazon.com
I first heard bits of this years ago, and have always wanted to add it to my Ken Nordine collection. Trickier than other K.N. CDs to find, it was well worth the search. Joined by Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Howard Levy, and even Tom Waits on a couple of tracks, Ken does his Word Jazz thing backed by nimble improvisations on mostly acoustic instruments. This is slightly different than the typically electronic backing Ken gets on his radio programs from son Kristan, and jazzers like drummer Paul Wertico on other albums. But it is still great stuff, and a must-have for us Ken Nordine fans. (One thing that, to my knowledge, has never been released, is the radio broadcast from San Francisco on New Year's Eve, 1993 (?) right after this was recorded, and where Ken is joined by Jerry Garcia, Howard Levy and - Bela Fleck! Several pieces from Devout Catalyst are performed by this quartet, and is a great combination that really should be released, perhaps in a future special edition of D.C.)
