Product Description

The dLAN 200 AVplus transmits bandwidth intensive data easily and securely over the existing electrical wiring - without installation effort. In addition, the Quality of Service function prioritises the bandwidth requirement of the data traffic, which has a speed of 200 Mbps, thus ensuring maximum voice and video reproduction. TV and video images are received and displayed with absolute smoothness. QoS also guarantees the clear, instant reproduction of voice data, even when other applications are running on

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, simple and well-thought out 22 July 2010
By Martin Turner HALL OF FAME TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
This is a simple but powerful networking solution where you plug the units into a mains socket, plug ethernet cables in, and have an instant network running through the electricity cables of your house. It's approved to the current standards, easy to set up, and fast, and, in this version, includes a pass through socket so you don't lose a socket by using it.

At up to 200 megabits per second, the dLAN AVplus is potentially twice the speed of standard 100 base T ethernet, and faster than either the standard wifi, or the recently released n specification. I say potentially, because the actual speed of the network depends on a number of factors, but, if you have appropriate components, you stand a better chance of speed with these units than with wifi. As importantly, for everything but a laptop, this is as convenient as wifi, since ever desktop Mac or PC, every networked disk or printer must also have a power supply socket.

What this is is a network adapter which works by modulating the AC on your home electricity system, with a convenient passthrough socket so that you don't lose a socket when you use it. If you are sharing a power system, or just cautious, you can introduce encryption at the touch of a button without reducing performance, although it's a bit fiddly if you've already installed the plugs at opposite ends of the house. Installation is a breeze: although you can use the supplied Windows, Mac or Linux software to configure the system, it works just fine out of the box, and even comes with its own ethernet connectors so you don't have to hunt for any spare ones you might have lying around.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just not be any easier 26 Feb 2010

Item arrived. Unpacked it. Plugged it in. It worked perfectly. Things could not have seen simpler. I use the item to watch iPlayer on my Sony Freesat TV - as yet not seen a single glitch. VERY pleased with item. N.B. Amazon is display the picture of the Smart+ item, when the item for sale is the AVplus i.e. it does not have the LCD displays.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just works 11 Mar 2010
By Steve Mansfield VINE VOICE
Verified Purchase
As the previous review says, this product could not be easier to set up, and does just what it says on the tin. It must have taken a grand total of five minutes from opening the box to connecting to the internet. What a difference in network speed from my previous wireless connection; web pages and emails fly onto the screen, the iPlayer and YouTube are glitch-free, and updating my iTunes podcasts has gone from a slow chore to crikey-has-that-finished-already?

The network cables supplied in the box to connect the wallplug to the device are only about 1.5 metres in length, so if your electricity socket is further away than that you need to get hold of a longer cable.

A simple and splendidly effective bit of kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works across / through my fuse box! :-) 16 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase
I purchased these on Friday after lunch and received them on Saturday. I was worried due to the manuals and research I had read that these may not work across mains circuits. As I installed the electric's in my house and even though I knew each floor had it's own circuit breaker (new as of Dec 2000) I took the chance. Plugged in one of the devolo plugs in a room upstairs which is a circuit in it's own right and the other down stairs for the satellite, again downstairs circuit is it's own circuit. It all worked. To clarify each of the room where the plugs are used and are circuits in their own right, have their own breakers/fuses in the fuse box. I haven't tried the encryption, but will try that later as I have the devices on the homeplug network in their own vlan. I've read the reviews stating that performance is close to 100 Mbs wired networks, I haven't had any 1080p video streaming issues. I may buy a couple more plugs as I'm sure these will come in use to increase my wireless range using access points. Love these especially as they worked 1st time and as the documentation and feedback I had read stated it this technology does note work across electrical circuits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing technology 27 Aug 2010
This product sounded too good to be true, but it's amazing! I have a computer in a room separate from our cable modem/router, and used to have a long ethernet cable stretched across the flat to use the internet. I plugged these in and without any set up at all, my computer was connected to the internet at high speed. I am completely impressed by them and would highly recommend them.

In case you're wondering, they work absolutely fine with macs.

The only reason I've downmarked them a star is their physical design. Each unit is quite tall, and if I plug them into my power points in the baseboard, they are so tight against the floor that I can't plug the ethernet cable in. So I have to plug each of them into a power bar, which is then plugged into the mains. Such a shame, as it would have been absurdly simple for the plugs to be rotated 180 degrees, making them fully usable in any plug. I suspect power points in continental Europe must generally be higher off the ground and that the design was created for that market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Straightforward Plug and Play 26 Jun 2011
I have purchased two pairs of these for my home - for connecting my Netgear router (located upstairs) and my Humax HDR-Fox-T2 - plus remote ethernet hub connected to a Squeezebox, Mac Mini, Netgear ReadyNAS, and, network-capable Yamaha AVR, downstairs.

Mains noise reduction is integral to the Devolo homeplugs, and I have not experienced any negative issues in streaming music or movies around the house.

Such is my favourable impression of the product that I have purchased a further pair to keep in storage in anticipation of the emerging YouView platform in 2012 and/or the purchase of IPTV enabled televisions (such as the Sony KDL-24EX320, for example).

Strongly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars They work to spec
Pass Thru is so much better as you don't have to worry about other devices (like extension leads) messing with performance. Put in place and leave. I get ~120Mbps to a garden shed.
