Product Description

Review

Reading this book is like sitting with Devilfish in a pub. It's one solid piece of entertainment: fast, funny, scary, smart, cocky and colourful (Victoria Coren The Observer )

Cancel your plans for the weekend and do yourself a big favour. Read this. Devilfish is funny as f**k, ballsy, brave as a lion, mad as a bag of monkeys, and absolutely captivating as a storyteller (Daily Star )

This is a full life story from the fish's own mouth: his jokes, his sauce, and detailed revelations from his criminal past. Broad, funny, northern and poetic. A master storyteller (Guardian )

Quick-witted and self-depreciating... a fast-paced tale that is part kitchen-sink drama, part Hollywood blockbuster. A thrilling ride out of the darkness into the light... this is a page-turning classic (Card Player magazine )

A rollicking good read... amusing, honest, and compelling (Blonde Poker )

How, as mere mortals, can we play like the Devilfish? (Jesse May, TV commentator )

Devilfish: The Life & Times of a Poker Legend
Well this book had everything, fun, heartache, drama, suspense and more fun.
I don't often write reviews of books that I have read, but after reading a comment that another person made about the Devilfish not listing his losses as well as his winnings, " I thought to myself is this guy for real " he should sit down and read the book again. If the Devilfish had to record and discuss all his losses, he would need to write an entire " BRITANNICA ENCYCLOPEDIA " of Devilfish LOSSES.

If he had read the book properly like I did, the Devilfish could not have been more honest and open about living his life by the seat of his pants.

I guess he will go on living his life that way, but what I did grasp from the book, " how much I fighter this guy is " nobody can rack up the tournament wins this guy has, without being a fighter. The fact the Devilfish is by far a much better Pot Limit Omaha player than he is a No Limit Holdem player, God only knows how many PLO events he would have won, if they held as many as they do NLH events.

But the book is not all about poker, it is like I say a very openily written story of his younger days.

Don't take my version, try and judge for yourself, I'm sure you will have a chuckle to yourself and we all need some fun in our life.

Very funny. Blunt and to the point. Dave Ulliott is everything a good poker player should be, big balls and also knows all the subtle nuances of the game. He's also completely fearless, both at the table or in any other situation. Just don't borrow his mother-in-law's razor.

I had already read the other book about Devilfish but this time was looking forward to a book written directly by him and not based on someone elses opinions.
I have had a look at the other reviews and must make a remark regarding the 3 star review. I have no idea why this reader expected extensive explanations about poker hands in an autobiography, and as for only the winnings being listed, who really wants to read about the losses?
His stories are funny and the book is very down to earth, this is one of the best reads I have had all year, and I read a lot!
You do not have to be interested in poker to enjoy this book, I have no idea what all the different games and hands are, but still understood everything perfectly and I recommend it to anyone who just wants a very honest, funny, entertaining read. It really is remarkable how Dave's life has evolved from growing up in Hull to where he is now.

Love the Devilfish!
What a great book! Listen - I am a girl, I play poker, therefore love the 'gossip' behind the cards as much as the technical ability to perform at the table. Read more
