iPad 3 Case of Awesomeness!!! 29 Mar. 2012
By Colin - Published on Amazon.com

Here's a really long review with all the positives/negatives of this case. Cliff Note version of my thoughts...this case is awesome! Read on to know why.
After spending hours comparing and contrasting iPad 3 (3rd Generation) cases on YouTube, Cnet, visiting Best Buy, etc I determined a few things about what I wanted:
1) I wanted my case to protect the front and back of my iPad.
2) I wanted the cover to be a "smart cover" (turn on/off the iPad when opened/closed).
3) I wanted a case that looked professional.
4) I wanted a case that didn't add a lot of bulk or weight.
5) I wanted my iPad's front/glass section to be fully visible and uninhibited by seams or clasps.
6) I wanted my case to take advantage of the iPad's vertical and horizontal view options.
7) I didn't want to spend much $$$.

This is a tall order to fill; even Apple's "smart cover" doesn't achieve most of these requirements. I initially found the Versavu 360 case, and was pleased with most of its features. The 2nd Gen Versavu 360 case was respectably rated 4/5 stars on Amazon, but I found the 3rd gen Versavu case was only getting 2/5 stars (weird I thought...but then found it was because the smart cover feature wasn't working...disappointing). Digging around further, I found that the Devicewear Detour 360 case for the 3rd Gen iPad had Versavu's features, but with a working smartcover, thinner profile, and lower pricetag.

I bought the Detour 360 3rd Gen iPad case, and it's AWESOME! It has all the above features, but also just feels great in my hands. The soft vegan leather is smooth and soft, which makes holding the iPad a pleasure. Before getting this case, I found holding my iPad to be uncomfortable since the sides are rather sharp; this was especially problematic when holding the iPad vertically while reading for hours in iBooks. Now, I can comfortably hold my iPad or use the vertical stand option to balance it on my lap while lounging on the couch or in bed (SWEET!). Since many 3rd gen cases are having problems with the smart cover feature, I'd like to vouch for this case and say it does in fact work very well; you close the cover, and it turns off the iPad, open the case, and the iPad turns back on. Use the strap, and you know your cover won't unintentionally open while in a bag...nice.

Of course, no review would be complete without at least a little whining; so here it is. The viewing angle notches the iPad sits in are not very deep. Typically, this isn't a problem, but if you move or jostle the iPad while in this position, it can cause the iPad to slip out of the viewing angle. I can see how this design issue wasn't easy, given that increasing depth would cause the cover to be thicker/bulkier. Perhaps they should have cut the notches at a steeper angle??? Also, as noted in another Amazon review, I had a little difficulty initially clipping my iPad 3 into the case. After a little teasing though, I did get it completely in, and it does a phenomenal job completely holding my iPad in the case...it's not going anywhere.

My final thoughts- if you read books, play games, and visit sites on your iPad, you should get a case that allows you to utilize the iPad's vertical and horizontal views comfortably. Surprisingly, most cases don't have horizontal/vertical viewing angles; this is a mystery to me. However, this case does that and more at a reasonable price. Sorry for the long review, but for people like me who want to buy one decently priced case and have it work the way it needs to for a completely fulfilling iPad experience, you'll hopefully appreciate these details. Enjoy the case.
The End :)

Devicewear Detour 360 11 Jun. 2012

After looking a several options I decided on this iPad (3rd generation) smart cover for the following reasons:

1) ability to rotate between portrait and landscape easily
2) Smart cover feature (auto shutoff - auto on)
3) adjustable angle while positioned upright in in cradle
4) durable construction
5) good side protection
6) secure cover when closed

Not only did this product meet all of my requirements the company "Devicewear" provided outstanding customer support as demonstrated through handling a failed smart cover function on my initial shipment.

I received the product the day after ordering. This was due to an early morning order and the depot warehouse was less than 100 miles from my residence. After test fighting the product I found the fit was outstanding. All corners were sucure and fit snug in the (well made) carriage. All hard buttons were exposed with no limiting access and again were very well protected. The rotation feature is perfect for my application and the two channel positioning helps to eliminate glare at different positions when necessary. The device when laid down slightly raises the top of the device for a good viewing angle while keeping the height of the bottom at a good distance from work surface. This position is very well suited for typing.

Now for customer service. After testing the mag switch with the smart cover feature.... It failed to function. There are two things one must check to ensure the device is setup correctly. The first is that under general settings you have enabled the smart cover function. The second is the mag switch alignment. The mag switch is located on the top edge of the screen boarder and to the right. The magnet built into the cover must align with the switch. Since this is a rotating cover it is conceivable that the rotation of the iPad when closing the cover could be off by 180 degrees. Here are some identifying characteristics to quickly check on this cover:

1) the home button on the iPad when in the correct position is on the right hand side as you would view the screen in the upright and landscape position
2) when closed the speaker and on/off switch are both visible from the back

Once confirmed the cover should function as a smart cover.

Upon failure I wrote Devicewear's customer service department and received a reply back the same day. Together we confirmed that I took the above approach to verifying the correct setting and rotation of the device in the cover. The customer support person immediately agreed that the cover was defective. Evidently this can happen in assembly. It is not impossible that the magnet can be installed with the polarity upside down. Devicewear immediately sent me out a replacement which again I received the very next day. I am happy to report that the new cover worked flawlessly

I purchase a lot of products online and through Amazon. The response from Deviceicewear was exceptional!

Very satisfied,

This is my first iPad and case, so I cannot compare it to others. I have now had it for 2 weeks and have no complaints. The manufacturer even sent me an email after I received it to make sure the case met my expectations.

PROS
* Swivels - I use this a lot more than I thought I would.
* Price - great
* Access / opening to both cameras, volume control, mute switch, sync, speaker, and Aux jack
* Magnets work to turn it off / on
* Elastic strap keeps it closed
* Appears to be well built
* iPad feels like it will stay solidly in the case.
* Looks great. I like that you see the Apple logo through the swivel when closed.

CONS
* None so far

Fabulous IPad 3 Case! 13 Jun. 2012
By VocalRose - Published on Amazon.com

Got this case because I saw a favorable review on YouTube comparing the Devicewear 360 to the Targus Versavu. This case is everything that the Targus wants to be, but isn't. First, the vegan case feels great in your hand. It is nicely padded and I am secure that my expensive iPad will not be damaged. The sleep on/off works perfectly and the swivel is secure as well... I don't feel like its going to break off! Even though it's not as lite as some cases, I like that, and it actually feels more comfortable in my hand when I'm reading than my other thinner case. The grooves are definitely deep enough to hold the iPad up when standing, both horizontally & vertically. Also, it fits very securely into the case and snaps tight! To sum it up...I Love My Devicewear 360 case!!!!

Versatile Case for iPad 3 9 Jun. 2012

What I liked about this case:
1. Favorable price in comparison with other cases that function similarly (I returned a case from Best Buy which was almost identical but cost twice as much.)
2. The magnetic sleep function when the case is closed actually works.
3. Nice to be able to view iPad in both portrait and landscape orientation, though I very rarely use portrait orientation
