Product Description

Product Description

Baby Massage is one of the most important skills parents can learn. It enables parents to readily bond with their babies, promote their babies' emotional and physical development, uncover potential problems and treat minor ailments. Being massaged makes babies relax and cope better with stress, improves their muscular coordination and flexibility and helps them straighten tightly flexed hands and legs. In this exciting new edition of Peter Walker's best selling guide of 2,000, he not only includes vital new sequences essential for very young babies, but demonstrates them in a special water proof covered, stand-up edition. The book can thus be placed at eye-level making it's photographic step-by-step sequences easy to master.

Before I got this book, I had trouble figuring out the best way to massage ma favourite baby. The photographs are extremely helpful and the techniques have been thoroughly researched.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in massaging babies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The importance of communication, 5 April 2010
By

This review is from: Developmental Baby Massage, stand up edition (Hardcover)
Peter Walker's book is an excellent manual and introduction to developmental baby massage. I imagine it will be useful to both mothers (and fathers) and also professionals, like nurses, midwives and health visitors. It is beautifully produced, spiral bound and with laminated pages. It is easy to follow. He covers the usual subjects - like how massage helps deal with such issues as colic and wind and lack of sleep. He emphasises the way in which working with the baby will help that baby throughout its childhood and maybe into adulthood: he continually stresses the importance of posture and stretching.

What I really liked, was the way he shows how important 'touch' is, and how baby massage should help in the development of all aspects of a baby-mother relationship. It struck me that this technique would be good for those mothers who were having difficulty 'bonding' or relating to their newborns. As well as helping their baby in a physical way, the massage would help them get 'close' to their newborn.
