I recently purchased this book after a long search for something aimed at those who have an adequate knowledge of German to start with. I have an A'level in German, obtained many years ago and I have worked in Germany since on a frequent basis. Though I have no trouble understanding and speaking, I find it extremely difficult to write German properly, yet most material out there is too basic. I have only worked through a few lessons up to now but I can confirm that this is really a very useful book. The standard is that I experienced at University in other languages. As long as you have a good upper intermediate knowledge of the language, it will really assist your reading of complex texts and thus in acquiring the vocabulary needed to write at a higher level. Texts are a mixture of literary and newspaper. Many useful words are translated into English and I find that I remember them much better by working through the exercises, where they are in context, than I would by simply learning a boring list. Overall, I would say that this is an excellent way of acquiring a better knowledge of what is without doubt a difficult language.
