The information in this book helped me. It wasn't a 5 star, as it does have some errors. I gave it a 4 because it has quality information, and I loved the format with it's two minute drills, and exam watches. I gave it a 4, as well, because the errors I found in the book were posted on their errata site. The book isn't perfect, but it does the job for me.

I am an experience programmer but not using VB and for me this book was work reading but as preparation for the exam I would say that it falls way short of the mark. There are far too many errors in it for exam prep. Not only that, as a new VB programmer I found that there was simply not enough explaination as to "how" to do things. It assumed too much knowledge that I simply didn't have to put into context the material I needed to remember. The CDROM was useful but the test-yourself app was again, not up to exam prep standard. If you want this book as your second or third self-study book towards the exam then fine, but it will not be your only one.

Pants! 22 May 1999

Format:Hardcover
This book is a pile of pants!. The main problem is that it feels 'all over the place', shifting from 1 subject to another, and then goes back later. If your revision style is to write structured study notes, then forget it, my notes ended up all confused and muddled, pretty much like the book. The author tries to follow the Microsoft exam syllabus to the letter, in his chapter layout. You could put the syllabus and contents page side by side and no notice the difference. I personally do no think that this is the best way to layout a study guide, and in this case it doesn't work. Add to this the numerous mistakes, in fact at one point, the first main chapter on MTS, the first MTS structure diagram which is fundamental to the rest of the chapter is in fact incorrect, it is a picture explaining how network printing works!!! I'm afraid this one is collecting dust on the shelf, and I am now using the Exam Cram books. Get them and save some money too!
