  • Choose from several data storage options
  • Create view and navigation components, including a back button
  • Get tips for designing user experience with touch and gestures

I'm very impressed with this book in the way it manages to cover the main topics developers will want to learn about when getting started with developing for mobile. Even though the title of the book indicates its targeted for Android application development, most if not all of the code discussed works perfectly fine for cross compilation to iOS devices with Adobe AIR.

Without a doubt this is the best AIR for mobile development book I've read up until now. Its an easy introduction into the topic but still provides more than enough useful tips and tricks to be a must read for more experienced ActionScript and AIR developers.

Excellent, concise and waiting for a Flex book for Android Dev 9 May 2011
By Doron Katz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The first android book that I am going to review, but this book in particular is on how to develop Android applications with Flex, more specifically. The book, titled Developing Android Applications with Adobe Air by Véronique Brossier is the book I have been waiting for a while. While there are tons of resources on developing droid applications natively with Java and the Android SDK, a book for Flex developers on how to leverage their existing skills has been quite scarce, or at least non-centralised.

This book aims to achieve this centralisation, and covers a wide range of features, accessing device-hardware components such as camera, to gestures and saving data on the device with SQLite. And even though this book states android, you may also be able with Flash Builder 4.5 to target Blackberry and iOS devices as well, with some caveats.

I found the book to be easily understood, as a Flex developer but for non Actionscript developers, I think they may find this book quite hard to follow, without the fundamentals of AS, in which case they would need to read some Flex development books.

I am not sure when I will start developing android apps, but having this handy book with me, on my iPad, I can look at extending my iOS applications into having sister Android apps at a later stage, and this book will give me that guide.
AIR Android Quickly 24 Jun 2011
By S. Shanbhag - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
With the release of Adobe Flash Builder 4.5, and more lately 4.5.1, mobile development with Flex and AIR has taken off at a neck-breaking speed across all major platforms - Android, iOs, and Blackberry. While there are plenty of resources on the web that cover "hello world" type applications, no article covers basic concepts of AIR + Android in depth. In order to develop a meaningful Android application that uses multi-touch, accelerometer, camera, geolocation, microphone, and video, you need to first understand these concepts. This book covers all those topics in addition to advanced topics like hardware acceleration.

I was delighted by the author's simple style of explaining these concepts. It makes this book a pleasure to read and easy to follow step-by-step. I highly recommend this book to anyone doing AIR development on Android. This book and videos on the Adobe developer site for connecting to server side would (Java/Spring/Hibernate) would be a great resource to keep handy.
