Product Description

Being assertive is being able to express yourself with confidence so that you don t have to resort to being passive, aggressive or manipulative. By developing assertiveness and becoming aware of our own strengths and weaknesses, you can learn how best to modify your behaviour in social and business interactions.

Develop Your Assertiveness offers simple techniques to enable you to become more assertive. Simply reading Develop Your Assertiveness will not make you more assertive, but if you work through exercises and activities it includes, practicing face-to-face dialogue with friends, colleagues or a group, you will be able to measure your progress and reach your goal.

As a beginner (and currently attending an assertiveness class) to the art of being assertive I have found this book invaluable and easy to read. It's a basic introduction to the essential techniques of being assertive but it also forces you to probe your own insecurities as to why you are non-assertive in the first place. With simple exercises you can turn your negative thinking into positive, of course time and practice is what is essentially required, but at least you're armed with the knowledge of what to do. For anyone who's fed up with feeling like the proverbial doormat and constantly frustrated with being too passive, this book is a great step in the right direction.

I found the book to be quite useful. A good "pick up book" to refer to every now and again. I have to say though, it didn't really differ too much from many other assertiveness manuals I have read.

A little disappointing 16 April 2009
By Vicky B
Format:Paperback
Not being an expert in these types of self-help/professional working aids, I was expecting a bit more from this book. For the average lay person who just wants a few tips or pointers it is ok although not totally helpful. I thought the book focused more on the point of view of Managers and Employers and in doing so it does little to benefit an employee who may be coming across a few difficult situations or difficult people at work.
