3.0 out of 5 stars Collectors Edition ... 31 Aug 2011

Being a big fan of Deus Ex, and being a collector, i decided to shell out probably the most I've payed for a game for the exclusive

Collectors Edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. This review is only going to concentrate on the Collectors Edition material itself as there

are plenty of reviews for the game already ...

Having bought the Duke Nukem: Balls Of Steel Edition, and being really pleased by that collector pack, this swayed me into splashing out on

this, albeit it being a bit more expensive. So what we get is a clam-shell style box around 290mm x 190mm x 80mm, finished in black with a

soft feel touch - very nice, a mosaic kind of design on the front, and a Ltd Editon Numbered sticker on the side. But now my first gripe

begins - the box is encased in a piece of card which has details of the pack, and this card goes on the back, across both ends, and has two

tabs on the front with 3 dots of adhesive membrane on each holding it in place. You are required to unstick it to open the box, but why the

hell didnt they make it a complete sleeve that you could just slide on/off? Then you wouldnt need the sticky pads, which left nice splodge

marks on the soft feel box, and the box finish is such you cant really clean them off - and if you leave the card off, where do you put it?

It doesnt fit inside the box either. So its just loose. Bit naff IMO.

Inside the box, there is a black plastic insert, with a velvety surface - again, quite nice - well feel wise anyway.

Yes... wall of text.

Packaging of this particular edition is a soft matte black box with the figure within, above the rest of the content. The box feels nice to the skin, but it is not quite long enough for the figure. So, within the box, the figure displays in a curved position to one side. This is an odd choice for the box design, and it doesn't make for using the box as a display to hold the figure. Why skimp on the box by 10 millimeters? The marketing copy and bullets on the rear are actually a slip of cardboard, rubber cemented to the box. There was a two week delay before I got my copy, but the rubber cement had already left "stains" on the matte box surface, so be aware of this if you're buying one after the release date. Wash your hands before touching the box because skin oil won't wipe off easily.

The plastic velvet-ish tray holding the contents arrived with cracks in the seams, and the assault rifle is so tightly shoved into the tray that its difficult to pull out without concern for bending the rifle or ruining the tray. It's also a more than trivial effort to place the rifle in the figure's hand, giving cause for concern that the fingers might snap. Lack of a radial swivel in the upper arms limits options for the possible positions to use for display. I lament the limits, but the figure still looks nice and detailed, with a very good match of likeness to the character in the game itself. Certainly, I took "for display" to be the sole purpose of the figure... don't hand the figure to a child because it will be unintentionally dismembered in no time flat.

The DVD content is good, and easy to access.

Game presentation (game visuals, menu design, music) is unmistakably AAA quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deus Ex: Human Revolution Collector's Edition 1 Oct 2011

The game is simply great. According to my Steam stats I used about 29 hours to complete the game (although I played mostly the non-lethal way which clocked in a couple of extra hours) so there is indeed a decent amount of game time in store. I really like the first game in the series and soon felt that I was back in that world when playing this game. There is clearly a very similar feeling and mood to it. There are of course more thorough reviews of the game out there and I am not going go the whole 9 yards to review it but I will say that if you liked the first game you will probably like this one too.

The collector's edition is a sweet package: you get the Adam Jensen figure with detachable hands and arm blades. I find the figure top notch quality and with the props (an assault rifle and the changeable hands) it is a cool item. The soundtrack included in the bonus disc along with the making of etc is a good companion to the game. There is also a 40-page artbook included but that is a bit of a let down in comparison to artbooks in the Bioshock 2 collector's edition and Crysis Nanosuit edition since it is approximately an A5-sized "book" but still it has some sweet images in it. You also get some in-game items with the collector's edition which are ok but nothing too special unless you are keen on those kinds of extra swag.

Delivery was fast. It arrived a couple of days later than the publishing date since it came from the UK or Germany to Finland but that is totally a OK since I am not really one of those people who has to have it the moment it is available.

Also the package itself it absolutely awesome. It is compeltely black and golden without any other "interference" on it. And it is numbered as well. Mine is 6480th out of 20 000.

So, if you have the chance to pick this up and you are a fan of the series, do yourself the favor and pick it up.
