Detroit: An American Autopsy of Financial Failure: The Secrets behind the Detroit Bankruptcy & How You can prevent it from happening to your city [Kindle Edition]

This is a short and probably self published pamphlet on the recent fate of Detroit, declared bankrupts and now home to vast urban prairies of deserted street blocks.

It is possible to read it in twenty minutes and it is reasonably well written and thoughtful. It could probably do with an editor, some of the drafting was a little clunky, and despite its short length it was actually a bit repetitive. Basically the author told you all the daft things that Detroit did, and his advice was basically don't do those daft things.

The author appears to have no particular insight into Detroit and its people, but there are certainly worse ways to spend this modest amount of money. If you have a more serious interest in Detroit I would recommend checking out the Wikipedia article and then putting your money towards the seriously good
The Last Days of Detroit: Motor Cars, Motown and the Collapse of an Industrial Giant by Mark Binelli.

I enjoyed this ebook immensely. I had read it in bed at last night, and it made me want to stay up, and keep reading more. Larry Berg imports a great incite into the many transitions that had truly taken place throughout the history of Detroit. Although I know a quite bit about bankruptcy, this book reveals new secret scenarios of how actual things are going on. Reading details about the rises and falls of Detroit, I am simply shocked. The way the actual story of Detroit bankruptcy has described in this book is thoughtful ; even I had started to feel like I am reading a one of the futuristic tales about the earth after it is all but destroyed. Really astonishing !! How such a flourishing city could just turn into land of frustration !! Any time this kind of financial destruction could be happened in your city. You should read it because there's no stopping this kind of destruction to any where and to any person.
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely informative and well written 8 July 2014

As I know Larry berg is a great story teller, I love to read his books when gets free time or want to know more about what is happening in current world. This book demonstrates the true story and the secrets of how to kill a once-prosperous city with its poorest people trapped inside. This book is enthralling, absolutely human, drastic, and personal. I could not believe myself how such a highly affluent city like Detroit just suddenly turns into an economical backwoods filled with unemployment, crime and frustration. This book also discovers the main facts and reasons for the financial decline. I feel really sad to see the overnight ruins of this Motor city. This book not only discusses about the wealth smash of such a big city (Detroit) but also gives a new hope to rebuild Detroit as well.

Larry's writing style enriches my knowledge and makes me think about how any famous and economically sound city can be Bankrupted at any moment. If you are interested to know about this motor city, then you can read this short book.

I was very curious as to what happened to Detroit. At a point it seemed like a very bustling city and then almost suddenly its a financial wasteland filled with crime and high unemployment. I wondered how this could happen to such a famous and large city? How could this happen to where the cars are produced? Why is Motor City in ruins? Larry Berg answers these and many other questions in Detroit: An American Autopsy of Financial Failure. Berg examines what the news doesn't discuss - how quickly the rose because of the automobile boom and how far it fell due to uncontrolled government spending, unemployment and subsequent bankruptcy. The American Autopsy serves as a outline and warning for other cities who are experiencing these similar issues to prevent them while they can. It's hard to come back - Berg presents this well.

I know a bit about bankruptcy and how things work, but I did not know this much detail about Detroit. This book by Larry Berg is definitely a must have. The book goes into detail about the rises and falls that Detroit has experienced.

It makes you definitely think about what has happened and how many other cities this could potentially happen to. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading about the financial failure Detroit faced.
