Synopsis

In the never-ending high tech war against crime, Detective Constables Bob Louis (Jasper Carrott) and David Briggs (Robert Powell) are the Scud missiles of the Police arsenal - inefficient, unreliable and utterly aimless. Accidentally promoted far beyond their level of competence, The Detectives rely on a unique blend of intuition, hunches and inspired guesses... all of them hopelessly wrong! This DVD contains all the episodes from series 2 of the popular comedy series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh til you cry - I do, 6 Nov 2006
By Ms. E. J. Baker "Elle" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have never found any comedy as funny as this series and am SO glad that its now at last coming out on DVD. I think this is my favourite of all the series, the real creme de la creme being Never Without Protection, with Rula Lenska which always have me falling off the sofa it is quite simply hysterical!! - especially the ending. However that is not to suggest the other episodes are not as funny, they are, including monks in a silent order and bulls pituitary glands and the boxing board. You will laugh until you cry from start to finish and if you have never seen this series I urge you to buy it as you won't regret it. Utterly priceless, worth every penny and the long wait for DVD format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly excellent, 18 Nov 2006
By Ian (Walsall, UK) - See all my reviews
After having seen the first couple of episodes on the Series 1 DVD, I wondered whether my memories of this show were rose-tinted. After those first few - and throughout this second series - I'm reassured that my favourable memories were accurate. This is excellent. The performances of the leads are sublime, and the writing of Steve Knight and Mike Whitehill works really well for these characters.

Plus, there are a few episodes I'd forgotten all about. To jog your memory, this contains:
* The one where Briggs and Louis get suspended and meet the blind pool player
* The one in the monastery
* The one in the boxing gym
* The one containing the pilchards lorry and the trip to Amsterdam
* The one with Rula Lenska
* The one where the Jasper Carrott character watches a domestic from his window.

Hopefully that's got you thinking "Ah, I half remember that one." Good. Now buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who says the old ones aren't the best...., 18 May 2009
Another in the classic season of The Detectives - Carrot and Powell were just made for each other in this series. How they kept straight faces I will never know and as for the guest stars who appeared ... that's another story!
It's been great to be able to share their policing 'skills' with my kids and hear them laughing their heads off too at their helpless/hapless ineptitude. Can't wait to get the next series!
