From Amazon.co.uk

Marlene Dietrich purrs through sexy songs, and Jimmy Stewart succumbs to her sultry, androgynous ways in this seminal Western with more than a touch of comedy. He plays your average nice guy who turns out to have something special up his sleeve when confronted by a gang of bad guys. He tames the banditos and wins dance-hall girl Dietrich's heart with his nonviolent ways. You may think you have seen this before, and most likely you have. Based on the 1930 novel by Max Brand, the plot has been copied repeatedly. However, this atmospheric 1939 delight stands far above its imitators. This is the movie in which Dietrich, wearing full saloon-gal regalia, sings, "See What the Boys in the Back Room Will Have." It was remade with Audie Murphy in 1954 as Destry, but that version lacks the charisma provided by Stewart and Dietrich. --Rochelle O'Gorman

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate in anti violence, comedy and action 12 Nov 2000
Format:VHS Tape
Destry is one of the great movie characters, from the first moment you see his lanky form you can't help but feel a connection. When the wimp finally shows the town what a real man is it comes as no surprise but even so, the sense of glee one derives from those few, well place, bullets is worht the wait and then on repeat viewings, the anticipation. On top of all this you are also treated to the electric Frenchy, the simmering singer who has taken the town by the trousers along with old Marsh the bumbling aid who knocks at your funny bone and pulls at your sympathies. Supporting these main characters are an array of wonderful creations, rare in films of any age, which drag you into the movie and let you forget that there's a real world. Add all this to a plot and youhave one of the best movies ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally and utterly charming 20 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
James Stewart is the most graceful and beautiful man that ever lived. This hysterical, touching and truly excellent film shows this almost as clearly as The Philadelphia Story. The dialogue between him and Marlene Dietrich is sharp and funny and cutting, and the fight scene with Dietrich is cinematic perfection. YOU MUST BUY THIS. If you haven't seen this film you haven't yet experienced the golden era of hollywood at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destry is a must 6 Feb 2008
By Kenny M
Format:DVD
This must stands up along side 'It's A Wonderful Life' for a quality Jimmy Stuart film. A great story: Mild mannered sheriff arrives to clean up a town run by crooks and gunslingers. Marlene Dietrich plays a superb saloon singer and 'moll', anyone who has seen 'Blazing Saddles' can see where Brookes got his character from, which is a homage rather than a lampoon. A classic western which manages to encompass suspense, comedy, romance and vivid characterization. Hollywood at its very best.

4.0 out of 5 stars "See What the Boys in the Back Room Will Have." 17 Sep 2005
By bernie TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
With the help of Frenchy (Marlene Dietrich) a dance hall girl from New Orleans, local ranchers in the town of Bottleneck are being swindled out of there land by the unscrupulous saloon owner Kent (Brian Donlevy).
Sheriff Keogh (Joe King) attempts to correct this and suddenly leaves town without his body.
Judge Slade (Samuel S. Hinds) who is in cahoots with Kent assigned the job of sheriff to the town drunk. Newly assigned Sheriff Washington Dimsdale (Charles Winninger) remembers a previous sheriff named Tom Destry and sends off for the son of Destry, Thomas Jefferson 'Tom' Destry Jr. (James Stewart).
On the day of Destry's arrival with all the crowds are waiting in anticipation. Destry steps out of the coach with a parasol and a bird cage. Sheriff Dimsdale thinks he may have made a mistake.
Only time will tell.

I personally think there is more to this film than the surface story and subplots. It has a good after taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destry Rides Again 7 Oct 2009
Format:DVD
When I was given this as a present for my birthday I didnt expect much (even though im a huge James Stewart Fan). But I couldnt have been more wrong, this was a great movie and I couldnt stop laughing from start to finish. This was Stewarts first western I have to say its of his best.

Theres a hilarious performance from Laurel and Hardy regular Billy Gilbert. The only problem I have with the film is that he wasnt in it more!

Great film. Lots of shooting, singing and great performance from the stars. Family entertainment - if your kids have never seen a western, this is a good one.
