A work of pure genius 11 Mar 2003
Format:Hardcover
If you love Andromeda, then I guarantee that you'll love this, and if you don't, you're watching the wrong show. Its backstory galore here, from Tyr's early life and his initial dealings as a merc to Beka and the crews metting with Trance and the unfortunate departure of Vexpac. Its well written and well structured jumping between the two storylines, kinda keeping you guessing as to whats goinna happen next, however, as with everything, there are a few minor inconsistencies such as Trance and Vexpac meeting but by that time you'll be so into teh story that it won't matter cause you probably won't notice, its that well written. I've gotta give this 10 out of 10 cause it really is a great story but don't take my word for it, buy and find out, I guarantee, its worth it. Hope this helps any potential buyers out there.

The only illusions about this are that anybody could possibly think that Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda isn't any good ! In fact it is a fantastic TV series, and all the books are the same, meaning, absolutely brilliant !
What I'd really like to see now, having bought all the DVD box sets and all the books, is a Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda Movie. I think the TV series always did end too soon after season 5 finished. Kevin Sorbo, Lisa Ryder, Lexa Doig, Gordon Michael Woolvett and Laura Bertram should all be brought back for a proper cinema release. If it worked for the original Star Trek, there's no reason it can't work for Gene Roddenberry's other best TV series, but, of the 21st Century. Andromeda - Season 1.2 [DVD] [2000]

..this would be the pilot. It's certainly enough to keep you reading, working equally well as a tie-in novel to the show or a novel in it's own right.

I originally purchased it as a way of filling out my Andromeda merchandise, a filler read for the bus. However, I finished it all in one night as I couldn't put it down. The story is complex enough to hold the attention, and the characters are, (mostly), deep enough to carry it, (with the possible exception of Harper, who is somewhat of a minor character here).

Tyr and Beka in particular benefit from their characterisation, and Trance is well-drawn in the limited time she appears, despite the slight differences between her personality here and her onscreen persona. Offside characters Bolivar and Ferahr are also wonderful additions, adding a touch of class and humour respectively.

Well-worth reading, it would merit five stars if not for the criminal lack of Harper!
