Product Description

Product Description

When eight-year-old Jayne left bomb-torn Northern Ireland, her family stayed with relations and a distant relative began a campaign of abuse so horrifying that her world was shattered forever.

When the family moved again, Jayne thought the nightmare was over. She was wrong. Her relative came too. And, as her parents had to work nights, Jayne's abuser became her 'carer'.

Raped repeatedly by him, beaten, abused and battered, Jayne's life was a living hell.

One thing kept Jayne sane: the love and care of her older brother, Stuart. But he had demons of his own, and Jayne watched in helpless despair as the boy who had always protected her turned into an adult consumed by rage. Out of control and on the edge, Stuart went on to commit one of the most terrible crimes of recent years....

DESTROYED is the heart-stopping tale of an innocence destroyed and a family torn apart - told by a woman who has finally managed to confront her harrowing past.

Jayne, thank you so much for this honest account of your life and for surviving your terrible ordeal and journey. I have walked your path, felt your pain and understand your sorrow. I read your story with tear filled eyes and it broke my heart as your journey in parts echoed mine. I share the same name as your brother and share similar experiences. Alcohol and drugs destroy lives but as I know my self at times it seemed like a great comforter. In reality it stole everything from me and I became cold, hard and aggressive. The fear of not drinking and drugging was greater than the fear of living without and so I continued into oblivion until it nearly cost my life. Today I am drink and drug free and so is Stuart. He is proud of all that you are and so am I. Stuart Howarth - Author 'Please Daddy No'. Read this book and educate society, as adults we all have a duty to 'be the change we wish to see in the world' - God bless!

HARROWING 3 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
Very well written easy read from Jayne Stern. When I was given ths book as a present from my daughter I thought this autobiography was a book on child abuse but it is so much more!!!

It is a very upsetting read and the reader will feel sincere sympathy towards Jayne who not only had to overcome a very hard childhood then had to cope with losing her brother to suicide following his arrest for a terrible tripple murder case.

Jayne writes with amazing honesty and her immense pain and sorrow is evident throughout the whole book.

I thoroughly recommend this book despite its serious nature and hope it will help other survivors of abuse.

Well done Jayne for your courage to write this book.

This book is one of the most powerful gut wrenching books I have read in a long time. Many books have bought me to tears, but never as much as Destroyed did. The brutality Jayne went through, at the hands of the evil Graham I promise will shock all that read this book, its truly devastating . From start to finish it has you hooked and in tears. This book also manages to give you a smile, simply because her personality seems to shine through with each page. Her mechanism to survive is breath taking and will leave you overwhelmed. She is a selfless, lovely and caring woman who deserves a medal for what she has gone through and having survived it all, How she has managed to maintain a stable life for herself and her family is incredable. Your husband and children must feel so proud of you.
Jayne you have lived a lonely and isolated life most of your life, yet your little mind fought to survive against all odds. The suffering you endured as a child makes me angry, and made me cry many tears. I am amazed at your courage and your strengths. When you talked of Stuart you could feel the love between you was strong and unbreakable, he also had a terrible life, but he choose as you say a different path, you cannot blame yourself for that. The honesty regards Stuart and Vicky in this story is astonishing, and touching. Your story will stay with me for a long time Jayne. I hope and pray you have happy life and continue to write. I am sure your readers will want to see more from you. May god continue to bless you xxx
