This book is a sequel to Derek Leinster's book "Hannah's Shame". In this book he displays the same courage and determination to succeed as before coupled with a certain mechanical genius. No matter what he does in life - boxer, boxing coach, labourer/mechanic, husband, father, trade union shop steward, he succeeds against all odds. Derek seems to thrive on adversity and regards each setback as a challenge. He has battled his way from a squalid beginning in a Dublin orphanage to a successful family life in the UK. Thanks to Derek's work tracing his natural parents, his grandchildren will know who their Irish ancestors are.
The Catholic Church in Ireland has received much bad publicity over the years due to alleged abuse of disadvantaged children in its care but other religious groups in Ireland also had children in care. Derek has a strong sense of justice and is determined to uncover the apparent oversights of the Protestant churches in Ireland when it came to taking care of their less fortunate members in the past. I hope that he continues in his quest to uncover the history of adoption, the Bethany Home and other non-Catholic orphanages in Ireland. This would make a great sequel to Destiny Unknown.
Read this book - it is an inspiring story of courage over adversity.
