This great album includes the fabulous up tempo disco anthem 'Blame it on the boogie'. At the other end of the scale there is a wounderfull ballad 'Push me away'. The cover has the trade mark peacock on the back. It also includes the lovly peace of writing in the front cover by Michael and Jackie about the peacock.

I was quite excited by seeing the 2008 Remaster version of Destiny, as it holds a selection of classic Jacksons tracks not readily available elsewhere in recent mix quality (Things I Do For You, Bless His Soul, Shake Your Body (full length version)).

Upon listening to this, I immediately noticed that the mix was unusually low and dull compared to the recent 2001 Remasters of Michael Jacksons solo releases (which have excellent sound). Upon looking it and comparing the files of the new release to my old CD version of Destiny, it soon got quite apparant that this is in fact not a Remaster but simply a re-release of the exact same mixes, with the only difference being that the volume is nudged slightly up and a couple of remixes are added (those are not 12" mixes btw., but Disco mixes).

I must admit I'm sorely dissapointed with this and feal greatly cheated by this re-issue which is promoted by Amazon to be a Remaster - and although this is not explicitely stated on the package (which is simply labeled as 30 Anniversary edition) it seems like a very concious strategy by the record company in the light of all the recent re-masters of the Jackson solo catalogue.

Destiny is of course still a good record, but if you have the old CD version, there's absolutely no need to host up the extra bucks to get this new version unless you're just dying to get those remixes.

Destiny was the jacksons 3rd album for epic records.Originally released in 1978 this was to be the first album solely written and produced by the brothers. After leaving motown, they signed for epic in 76 and released the jacksons and Goin places LP's..both albums largelly prod by philly producers Gamble and Huff, both albums featured several self written songs..this was a test to see if their own material was as good as the songs being written for them...fortunately mostly they were, so it was decided that this album would see the bros doing it for themselves if you were !

Ironically first single blame it on the boogie was not written my michael jackson but a mick jackson ! no this is not michaels name shortened but another man altogether. Boogie was released the year before and the artist was mick jackson who had a hit in the u.k with it..most people see witten by M jackson and assume it was written by michael..well it wast folks!

Destiny is a patchy album..not nearly as good as Triumph which was to be their masterpiece 2 years after this, but nevertheless Destiny does feature the aforementioned Blame it on the Boogie,Shake your body down to the ground and the almost as good Things we do for you and All night dancin. The rest of the album is so so but it's worth getting for these essential tracks.

If you've only been into michales solo work then your missing out on some real gems from him on these albums.

This is definitely a classic Jacksons album, which has been given a 30th Anniversary makeover.I am sure that most people have heard the 2 big hits from this album Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body(Down To The Ground)but this album contains so many songs which are not so well known, but which deserve a hearing, and as a bonus you get the full 12" mixes of Boogie and Shake which very rarely turn up on CD.

Fabulous album by a band at its peak. The 8 minute album version of Shake Your Body sounds a very different animal to the single version - both are great but this version is funkier.
The high point for me is the title track - a country-style intro morphs into solid funk and overlaid by a wistful lyric yearning for the country life. There are also many other lyrics about feeling trapped and beholden. (Not surprising considering the band's dealings with Motown in previous years)
The album sounds 'complete' and confident. Michael's voice is sublime and his brothers' vocals blend together perfectly. Some fantastic horn sections... As the album came just before MJ's solo success - the masterpeice that is "Off The Wall" - it is easy to overlook Destiny but you can hear echoes of Destiny in OTW. Buy Destiny for a slice of 70's funk, dreamy singing and a taste of what was to come a year later.

I had the vinyl and often picked it up wishing I could hear it again. Then I found the CD existed and snapped it up. The title track takes my breath away. I love it 'til today. The whole album is fab. There again, I never could fault Michael Jackson's genius and his brothers aren't half bad either!
