He’s the only one who knows about her mysterious powers, which seem to be spiraling out of control. About the Author

I began my writing journey while I was stranded at the airport waiting for my delayed flight. I browsed the Border’s kiosk and grew frustrated that I couldn’t find the “it factor” — the perfect combination of alpha male-ness, ass-kickery, strong females, magic, and sex. So I spent the next four hours on an airplane writing my first book on scraps of paper and an airsick bag (which thankfully I didn't need to use). Now I spend too much time in my head, plotting evil villains and the hot men (and women) who ruthlessly kill them. I think far too much about fae politics, dragon power games, and how fast werewolves can change forms. But writing my paranormal romance series has given me a productive place to express those dark places in my mind. I live in New England with my husband and two kids. Though I will go to my grave denying it, my husband insists I would be thrilled if he suddenly sprouted fangs.

The female lead is petulant, angry and nasty - perhaps she has her reasons, since she grew up in foster homes - but as a reader I need to (if not immediately like) at least respect or admire her as she evolves and develops. Which just did not happen for me.
Same goes for the male lead - arrogant, keeping secrets etc - and I had a very hard time believing these two have an attraction for one another from the very start since they were both so unlikeable.
I tried my hardest to like this book (after all those USA reviewers said the same thing - everyone hated the female lead to start but then the story really took off and it was witty and cool) and I kept trying and waiting - and nothing changed. So I'm officially giving up, never liked Sage, this was not witty or cool - it was just plain hard word that never paid off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting... 5 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wasn't quite sure what to think at first, Sage was very hard and coarse and I didn't like her very much. She had clearly had a hard time in life but surely her behaviour didn't need to be that bad? I also wasn't keen on the professor either, he came across as a total jerk. However, I stuck with it and actually it blossomed into an interesting story, paranormal and romance with a strong female lead who didn't take too much rubbish from the lead male. I actually found myself liking both of the characters come the end. Unfortunately, the second book isn't a continuation of their story, it is about her foster sister and a different vampire though set in the same world and I imagine the characters from this story will feature. Might be worth downloading, I haven't decided yet

4.0 out of 5 stars great sarcastic humor 9 April 2011
By Bitten by Romance - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Honestly, I had to put this one down. I just wasn't immediately drawn into the characters. When I came back I could kick myself for ever stopping. I am such a schmuck!

Sage is an extremely strong character. I enjoyed the personal, internal journey the author lead us on. The author does an exceptional job in expressing the emotions Sage has and is going through making a connection form easily with the character. She is also completely kick-ass and you have to love that.

James is an arrogant, know-it-all, but sexy as hell professor. His initial intentions for Sage were not so honorable, but James soon realizes love is more important than vengeance. When this happens the alpha male comes out, and the "MINE" phrases begin. You know I love that!!! Yes I do!!!

There is quite a few surprises in this novel, and that I enjoyed. The sarcastic humor was exceptional. Shaw pulled a snort or two from me, I will admit. However, what lacked for me was the sexual relationship of the characters. The first encounters (plural) were referred to but not addressed. This left a big void for me in the novel. I sat back and thought "What the heck! When did that happen?" and flipped back pages to see if I missed something. Then I read the page numbers to see if I was missing pages. Next I realized the information I was looking for just wasn't there! There is a scene eventually where the leads have a private meeting, but at that point I was a wee bit frustrated.

Would I read the next addition? YES, for the great sarcastic humor, and the potential of a great series.Dee~

5.0 out of 5 stars New Must Read! 29 Mar 2011

I love reading paranormal romance style books and was really honored to be one of the first to read "Destiny Divided" by Leia Shaw. This is the first book in the series, which I honestly can't wait to read more about. So, if you love paranormal romance books and have an appetite for vampires, witches, and more (oh my) you will want to check out this book too!

Let me start off by saying that I haven't been able to find a book since reading the Sookie Stackhouse series that I wanted to stay up past midnight to finish reading in one sitting. I found just such a book with "Destiny Divided." Sure, my eyes suffered and text started to get a little blurry, but captivating books like this one are well worth it!

Oftentimes the main female characters in paranormal books irritate me (think Bella from Twilight). Sage didn't really irritate me though. Sure, she was snarky and didn't trust men, but you know what? I'm like that too and I loved it. Her flaws were funny, somewhat predictable, but yet still managed to have me like her.

James is a sorcerer and a vampire from Wales with a sexy accent. Who wouldn't love that? Add in that he wants to protect Sage and help save his people and well, you'd want to offer him your blood to save him too, right?

The world that the author created was believable and not too complicated to make it hard to read. I also love the fact that Sage often joked about the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" series, both of which I love.

Overall, if you like paranormal romance, like "Twilight" "Harry Potter" or the Sookie Stackhouse series that "True Blood" is based on, you will also more than likely love this book too. I can't wait to read more of the books in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars PNR Teacher & Apprentice with a great story!! 11 Mar 2012

This book really surprised me!! In an AWESOME way!! I just got it because it had been on my wish list for the longest time and saw it on promotion!! But... WOW!! Have you ever started reading a new book and you just can't put it down!?! Even when I HAD to put it down, it was still on my mind!!

Sage Peterson knows only one thing. Survival. After being in foster care system, she knows that the only person she can depend on is herself. She is different, people feared her as a child. So when she is faced with going to jail, she is given two choices. Either end up in jail, or take the offer Professor Elias provides her with. Sage being a survivor, decides to take the lesser of two evils. Although all she really wants to do is disappear.

James Elias is a Professor at the college where Sage is working at. He has just dismissed his students when a commotion catches his attention. What he finds is a familiar looking women who is being apprehended by the security guards while the Dean is calling the Police. Raw, powerful magic hits him as he tries to get closer. Instantly he recognizes that she is like him. A sorceress, but untrained. He has rarely felt such powerful magic, so he offers her help. He will provide for her, if she agrees to let him train her.

As the story progresses, secrets are revealed. Someone is hunting Sage and she must face something she has been running from.... her destiny.

I have to say that this book is amazing!! At first I found Sage's attitude to be a little annoying but as you keep reading, your learn more about her character. I began to feel and develop emotional reactions to what happened to the H/H, which creates (for me) a great reading experience. The plot is great. I went in thinking it was going to be a magic only themed book. Boy was I wrong!! There are soo many things that are revealed that I never expected. When I finished, I just had to pick up the next book. I fell so in love with the characters, that I can't wait for the other characters to get their own book and see them find their match!!

Sage is outspoken, brash, but has a vulnerable side she protects. James is cocky, deadly, but caring when it comes to Sage. Together you get a lot of sarcastic humor and they are always butting heads. You can't help but want them to end up together!!! I do have to say that James is hot!! Some of the scenes leave you fanning yourself ;) .
Destiny Divided is Book 1 in the Shadows of Destiny series. I Highly recommend this!! You won't be disappointed! :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Witty 10 Jun 2013

I must admit that I had a bit of a problem with Sage (the main character of the book) at first, but as I got into the story I could really appreciate why she is the way she is. Street kids do have trust issues, and she is no different.

I loved that James came to love her and just couldn't let her go. It made for a great story! I loved the surprises, and the twists and turns in the story line, as it kept me turning the pages. I also loved the snarks and witticisms! It made for a refreshing change of the books that I usually read!

I bought ALL of the series that she has out so far, and looking forward to starting the 2nd one.
