Product Description

DESTINED
by Gail Cleare

Follow Emily's journey to self discovery, community, spirit and love. A contemporary magic-realism romance with engaging multi-cultural characters and lyrical descriptions.

This is the year Emily Ross takes control of her destiny and learns to deliberately shape the future. Emily has always known she is different. She attracts spirits, has prophetic dreams and can sense people's thoughts. Lonely and longing to fit in, she hides her true self. But all this changes when she finally gets the courage to walk away from her safe routine and takes a job at "Paradise," a fabulous curio shop owned by Henry Paradis, the occult scholar who becomes her spiritual mentor. Recognizing her talents as the valuable gifts they are, Henry teaches Emily to accept her magical nature and "look forward." Emily chooses the path to light and happiness, opening her heart and braving the obstacles she must conquer along the way. She finds lifelong friends, falls in love with an incredibly sexy man, learns the power of desire and intention, faces her worst fears and is swept toward awakening.

The mystical images of the Tarot's archetypal trump cards chart the way, 22 sequential steps along the path to success known as “The Fool’s Journey.” Illustrated by images from the Payen Tarot of Marseilles (1713), which is the oldest surviving Tarot deck.

Unique 29 Oct 2011
By V. Cano
Format:Kindle Edition
What caught my attention with this book was the idea of using the Tarot's Major Arcana to tell a story. As a Tarot reader myself, this really called to me as an inventive way of incorporating a bit of mystical atmosphere into a book.
The beginning was really well done. From the first page, the story and the narrator immediately grab on to the reader, making us want to read on. There is a good balance of internal and external action which lets us connect well to the narrator. This lasts until about half way through the book. Then, the narrative seems to lose steam. The incorporation of the Tarot cards becomes a bit forced, with some preachy paragraphs which are not really necessary to keep the story going, and there's not any true tension in the plot. Everything seems to work out for the main character, so we lose interest. For example, she t hinks at one point that her boyfriend might be cheating on her, which would have made for a good number of tense chapters, but instead it's resolved too quickly and too easily.
The writing itself is comfortable, allowing the story to flow. It is a simple, yet pleasing story. I would recommend this to all of you who like some mysticism with your fiction.

a magical fairy tale 11 Oct 2011

I really, really liked this book! The author might not like it to be called a fairy tale, but the magical realism just appealed to me a lot. The characters were so well defined and real, I wanted to meet them all and go to work in that book/antique shop myself! I really like the links to the Tarot as I have several of these fascinating decks myself, and it was really fun to think about the events in the story in the context of the arcana cards. I think she covered all the eco/green issues of the day, maybe overly much, but then they are all pretty important and relevant. And I happen to like the point of view about creating one's own destiny. A very fun read!

A MUST READ!!!!!

To be honest, I downloaded this book because it was being offered for free. I wasn't sure what to expect but it had good reviews so I figured that I'd give it a try. I never expected this book to touch me so deeply, in so many ways. It was SO much more than just a novel...than just a love story. It was very profound on a spiritual level. I am a person with deep metaphysical beliefs, and this book seemed to speak to every part of me. From romance and the fostering of personal relationships to metaphysics, spirituality, politics and ecological responsibility, this book covers just about everything...and in just the right doses. A well rounded and perfectly blended storyline. Thanks to Amazon for the free download and a huge thanks to this amazing author. I most definitely look forward to reading whatever other works she has manifested into reality!

A unique story, a delightful read! 27 Oct 2010

It was before the first chapter ended that I was committed to following the story of Emily a young woman fed up with the one who strives to demean her. I followed intently on this young woman's journey to self discovery and empowerment and the supernatural. Along the way we are introduced to an eclectic mix of characters all of whom Cleare creates with such depth you feel as though you yourself would want to meet them. Cleare's gift for the descriptive and sensitivity to detail make this story a pleasure all the way through. Take a spin into the world of the supernatural, savor some romance and be delighted as you escape for a moment out of your world and into this one.
