This is the Spanish version of an American Indie film that sadly did not make it onto the radar. It stars Jeremy Hollingworth as Pauly. He has converted from Greek Orthodox to Catholic because he has a thing for the other alter boys. He has a thing for oninism too which he also practices as a sort of religion.
He ends up in a State school where he is encouraged to join clubs and take up `sports'. He has to do sport as a cover for doing the school play. The play (which is a wonderfully awful `musical' based on `The Scarlett Letter') is being directed by Noel (Christian Camarggo) who has schoolboy charm combined with matinee idol good looks and a brooding Brando quality for hamming it up. So one can only speculate why Pauly is so keen on theatricals all of a sudden.
His parents start to realise he is changing, his mum played brilliantly by Marge Simpson voice Julie Kavner, is particularly frantic especially as she starts to suspect that he may not be the ideal son for grand children production. With all the pressures of teen life, play practice and some weird but endearing friends, something has to give.
This is an excellent little film with top rate performances, brilliantly cringe worthy moments and some adult themes but generally it is just a warm, slightly funny and very real story. This version has Spanish subs, but you can watch it on Lovefilm too. For a brilliantly told coming out, and of age film you really ought to not miss this, ruddy brilliant.
