Product Description

He could be everything she's hoped for. Or everything she fears. Two years after Kacy Carwell eluded kidnapping by a serial rapist, she still lives with nightmares and panic attacks on her painstakingly slow path to recovery. When a mysterious new neighbor moves in next door, her tenuous hold on her mental stability spirals out of control. She thinks she sees her attacker everywhere she goes, and no one believes her. Only the new neighbor, the patient, kind and handsome Gulliver Knight, prevents her from sliding into mental deterioration. He alone feeds her desperate longing to feel normal again. His gentle, attentive care calms her frazzled nerves, while his passionate lovemaking quickly sends her tumbling from attraction to deep love. His affections work like a balm to her wounded spirit. Then Kacy discovers that Gulliver is not all he appears to be. Her world crashes around her just as danger-this time real-threatens not only her sanity, but her life. Before she can untangle the web of deceit from her own broken emotions, someone will get hurt. And someone will die. Warning, this title contains explicit sex, graphic language, and violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Desperate Longing, 25 Jun 2008
By Kelly "Reviewer for The Sinfully Sensuous" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Desperate Longing (Paperback)
Kacy Carwell survived the most horrific experience any woman could ever suffer through. Two long years ago she was abducted, and tortured before managing to escape allowing her tormentor to go free also. She struggles every day just to have a semblance of normalcy in her life, but she thinks she sees him everywhere. She still can't be around strangers, and jumps out of her skin anytime a man tries to touch her. Kacy does force herself to get out, and makes a point to regularly attend her nephew Andy's baseball game. When she meets her new neighbor, Gulliver Knight at the game, she has another of her episodes, and accuses him of being her attacker. When she calms down and her senses clear, she apologizes, but can't get over the attraction she feels for him. While she is horribly afraid, it is a milestone, and a first since her abduction. Kacy starts spending time with Gulliver, and finds she craves him as well as his touch all the time. They become closer, and find themselves spending any free time together.

Just as she started feeling normal again, Kacy is thrown into a tailspin. She finds a note slipped under her door, and mistakes it for one Gulliver left earlier. Only this note was from him. He was coming for her. Kacy's instinct is to lean on Gulliver, but she is dealt another devastating blow by his betrayal. She desperately wants to trust him, but she is afraid to. As the attempts against Kacy escalate, she wonders if she will be able to escape this time.

If I could give this book a higher rating I would! Very emotionally charged, and full of suspense pulling the reader in from the beginning. Kacy is an extremely complex well-written character, and the chemistry between she and Gulliver is sensual and sexy. The author obviously did a lot of research on assaults, and victims' reactions to different stimulus. The book was written with many intricate specific details. Great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Desperate Longing, 2 Dec 2011
By Bella March "Bookaholic, Book Reviewer" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Desperate Longing (Paperback)

Two years ago Kacy Carwell was brutally raped. Since then, she's been a recluse, rarely going outside, having frequent panic attacks and seeing her attacker in every set of unfamiliar eyes.

Much to the consternation and jealousy of her neighbor Peter, a man by the name of Gulliver Knight moves in next door to Kacy. First, she panics, unsure of him or his motives. Soon, she finds herself falling for the kind and persistent man with the intense eyes and quick action. Although she has a hard time touching another person, Kacy discovers that she enjoys touching Gulliver, and kissing him, and loving him. However, she quickly discovers that Gulliver isn't quite the man he says he is.

It's clear that most of Kacy's friends and family think she's a little insane after her attack and doesn't take her claims that she's in danger as real threats. Yet, when it becomes apparent that the attacker isn't far from Kacy and may attack her again, will she be believed? What's more, will Gulliver believe her and will he be able to save her in time? Finally, if they make it through their ordeal, will their relationship, built on lies and deceit, be beyond repair?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Desperate Longing. It had just the right amount of suspense to keep me riveted to the pages and the passionate tension between Kacy and Gulliver was sizzling. Gulliver was a believable and delicious hero that had me turning the pages for more. Kacy was a little delicate, at first, for my tastes, but when push came to shove, she was able to tap into her admirable inner strength. This is a great story to read during a couple of hours of quiet time. I look forward to reading more works by Brenda Williamson in the future.
