Bought two of these. One for work, one from home. Both serve their purpose well. Home plugged into mains. Work plugged into PC.
The version that arrived had a shiny silver surround, not black as in the photo. Not a problem, looks good.
The unit comes with a usb socket for the regular charger (not supplied), a fixed USB lead for syncing/charging over USB, and an area for charging a second battery.
If you are going to charge over USB you do need to make sure you've got a socket with enough power in it. Most PCs do, but if you've - say - got a USB socket in the back of your PC keyboard, it might not have the grunt to charge it. Quick way to test is to use the USB lead that came with the HTC charger. I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but it's worth thinking about.
Pros...

- Charges of both USB and mains
- Can dock one handed with practice (good for charging when getting into bed)
- Does exactly what it says
- Looks like it'll work with a phone cover (which I don't use)
- Charges second battery, apparently (assume it can't do both over USB, but you never know)
- My phone is always charged now when I'm at work or overnight, and I know where it is. Also doubles as a bedside clock if I'm running the desk-clock app.
Cons...
- Quite light, you need two hands to undock, otherwise you take the whole lot with you. Nearly took my whole bedroom to work this morning. You could stick it down with some blu-tak (or whatever), or weigh the battery area down with something I guess
- It's a bit wobbly if you don't use a phone cover, making use of the phone in the cradle a two-handed affair
- There is a blue light on the back that is on all the time (unless you unplug it). It really is bright in the dark. A bit of black tape should do the trick though
- Minor quibble is that the USB lead is fixed. At home, I'm using a mains charger so the USB lead is flailing around redundant. If I were using the stock HTC charger, I could plug the USB lead straight into that, but I'm not. Not a deal breaker though, especially for this price
Overall, for this price you might as well. I needed two, and when other places are selling them for £25+, I couldn't justify a £50 outlay to charge my phone standing up, when it was doing just as good a job on its back. If you don't like it, chuck it on eBay and shell out a bit more.

Brought this after looking at other chargers that would allow me to charge a spare battery as the HTC Desire is a 'little' power thirsty. Noticed it didn't have an exact snug fit housing to grip the phone but allowed a small bit of space. This was my intention as I was looking for a charger that would accept my phone with a Case-mate 'Barely there' case on it...... what joy to find that not only did it fit, it charged the phonewithout hesitation.
The lights are a little bright for bedside use but sticky tape/label soon dimmed them enough to be effective.
Product description could have been a little clearer by telling you that to charge both phone and spare battery at the same time would require an micro usb mains charger as supplied with the phone. PC via usb will only charge phone in stand.
Also, picture does not do the charger justice, if you 'love' your Desire as much as most users do this sets it off a treat, very stylish .... with or without Barely-there case this is a must have....and at a reasonable price. 5 stars *****

The product I received was not as in the picture, the same as another review, I received a flat version, looks a little dated in my opinion - I would definately not have bought this had I known what I was about to receive. Doesn't look as nice as the one picture. Contacted the seller, who mentioned that they no longer have the one pictured - no offer of a refund, or a reason why the picture has not been updated.
Its a shame because I received the product very quickly, and the seller responded to my queries very quickly, but in the end - I did not get the product that I thought I was buying - trade descriptions? (one of the risks of online buying - sometimes online retailers just don't help themselves from taking advantage of the fact you physically pick the product - as I said its a shame)
The product I received does work (so one star redeemed) - but I have seen cheaper equivalents elsewhere. Really shame but 1 star is all I can give (how can I rate a product I technically never received?)
Have advised the seller that the product picture is mis-leading - but its not been changed yet - buyers be aware.

Slow!
The charger is so slow. It takes 8 hours to charge the battery to 75%. And you need to have it plugged into both your pc and socket if you want to charge it.
