Review

this book is filled with practical information and ideas for gardens, large or small ... the text is engaging and immensely readable ... gloriously photographed by Andrew Lawson Gardening Which ... serial Chelsea Gold Medal winner Arabella Lennox-Boyd gives us the benefit of 30 years as a garden designer. Her work, photographed by Andrew Lawson, is breathtaking and although she designs (mostly) large gardens, the book also has solid advice that can be applied to a garden of any size Sunday Telegraph Magazine

The Lady, June 11, 02

'beautifully presented and fascinating'

Daily Express, June 1, 02

'The text..is warm and heartfelt, and the photographs..will take your breath away'

Country Landowner, June 02

'...both practical and inspirational and if you enjoy gardening in what might vaguely be described as the grand manner this is the book for you.'

The Independent on Sunday, 8th December 2002

'Superb photography, and text based on a lifetime of distinctive and beautiful design.'

Product Description

The first part of this book explores Arabella Lennox-Boyd's philosophy and establishes the principles of her approach to design: the importance of relating the garden not only to the landscape but also to the spirit of the house and the individuality of the owner; how to establish the bare bones of a design – enclosing garden rooms, and opening up garden space; how to use vertical structures to best effect; and how to clothe bare bones with plants appropriate to the type of garden. Design ideas for everything from paving and pergolas to perennial plantings burst from every page, captured in Andrew Lawson's atmospheric images and Lennox-Boyd's plans.

The second part of the book looks in detail at more than 20 very different gardens, many these are private and never photographed before.
