Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Your dream home is only a few clicks away with this 3D Home Designer. You can use this planning and project software to transform each room in your house with thousands of combinations of furnishings, colours, materials and styles, including furniture and flooring.

To assist you when you are building a whole house or just one room, you have a ruler, guidelines and a grid. With a mouse click, you can move into design mode which shows you the building in an impressive photo-realistic 3-D view.

In design mode, you can plan the interior of buildings. To help you, there is a catalogue with more than 3,000 objects and textures. Using Drag and Drop functions you can change the colour of walls, add paint, wallpaper or tiles. You can even add in lights and create photo-realistic representations of light and shadow. And if you want to take it a stage further, you can enter the time of day and see the light effects of the sun and the moon.

This is a good tool for home improvement enthusiasts. You can re-decorate, re-model or expand your home on your computer and there is a cost estimation section to make sure you keep within budget. To guide you through the process, there is a manual on a PDF file which explains thoroughly how to use the program.

Architects, interior designers, builders and furniture manufacturers will find this software useful. Not just for creating projects but also for presentations.

One slight downside is that this software takes a while to install but it's worth the wait for the 2-D and 3-D viewing and the detail which offers you functions such as a dedicated roof editor to allow for various different types of roof design. --Justin Hunt

3.0 out of 5 stars Good features at a budget price!, 11 Mar 2003
By Stephen Brook (Loughton, Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I bought this product on impulse- I had been looking for decent CAD software for some time and had tried a various range of demos and trial programs. The results left me feeling rather flat (as reviews of other software will no doubt attest to). They offered a mix of results - some were too limited and basic, others too fiddly and cumbersome. 3D Home Design sits somewhere in the middle. You can achieve some pretty good results within a few hours of fiddling, and the actual control system is quite natural feeling. Ability to use cm or inches is a great bonus - you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a simple feature like this! Damn our US cousins and their adherence to imperial measurement! Basic designs come out well, and there is a wealth of materials, selections, objects and equipment to add - though there is a heavy European slant to the furniture design. It lacks a personalised design feature (make your own furniture) but the textures feature is easy to use - put in a painted blue shelving system, then change the texture to what you want - smoked glass, reflective chrome, whatever. More choice than IKEA!
It has the important ability to port existing floors to new floors created, essential for two to three story buildings. Roofs are pretty easy as well, you let the program do the hard work - but only as long as you keep them simple. Add a hexagonal conservatory to your two story house and try and add a first story roof proves quite fiddly, but not impossible. The windows and door options are excellent, much better than many other programs I've tried. You can create everything from walls of glass panels (impossible in some other CAD software) to wall cutouts, with control over depth of frames, inner and outer window sills, and a huge range of other things. As you can see, I was quite impressed with the package. Whilst it doesn't have the expansive range of features as other programs of its kind, what it does do it does well! It couples ease of use with quite technical and hardcore depth of control as well - not easy to do. You can set up whole sundivisions and plan a range of buildings all on one plot site The lack of outdoor/garden elements is a bit disappointing - you just get the basics and these lack flavour - although everything is customisable anyway. The ray tracing views are pretty good, which is a bonus considering the walk through set-up is a bit clumsy, but I've found that to be true with all CAD programs I've looked at. All in all a pretty good package - not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but more efficient and just as versatile as its much more expensive (£30 - £40) contemporaries. At this price its a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - a real bargain..., 22 April 2003
By A Customer
There are so many software packages out there that promise 'photo-realistic results, but this program really does. You can render your textures and then use a simply button to add realistic shadows and lighting effects.
If there is a drawback, there is not much choice of furniture - but as already stated, it is fully customisable.
Go for it - you won't be disappointed, even if you think that your PC is too old, you don't even need a graphics card.
Superb! A+++++++

3.0 out of 5 stars A good, but complex, piece of software!, 23 Mar 2003
I recently purchased this product to help design the interior of my new house (i.e. lay-out, decor, etc). Whilst the summary of the programme's features listed on the box is very impressive, I have yet to master them. I can't even figure out how to enable the on-line tutorials! Despite the programme's high-tech wizzardry and complicated-looking icons, I admit that the quality of the 3D graphics are very very good. It certainly has all the objects and textures you could ever want to use too. Overall, it has the potential to be a powerful interior design tool --if only I was wizard enough to understand it all!
