A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT., 11 Aug 2008

The first few chapters of this started off with a blast. I mean it started off with a feisty, very funny, beautiful heroine. There were even laugh out loud moments. The hero was also portrayed as a very strong, alpha-type but totally yummy. I was on a high until around two thirds of the way through when the characters simply changed with absolutely no warning and for no good reason I could discern. The hero became cold and distant, talking some nonsense about a war he had to fight in the desert. The heroine lost her very quirky sense of humour which actually kept the story interesting and fun.
The heroine was pregnant with his child which he knew about from the beginning, yet he chose to go off and fight his stupid desert war (thus,I guess the title "Desert King...") abandoning the heroine and his child for a whole year.
The "dead baby" - I call the baby that - because the author made sure she slept throughout the whole story, even when her mother was running for her life with her in her arms she never woke up, cried, throw up or do anything a baby is expected to do under such circumstances. UNBELIEVABLE even in fiction!! Oh, at the very end of the book she was allowed to 'coo', I guess to remind the reader she still existed. This author seemed to be so excited about the story at first but quickly ran out of ideas and subsequently had no idea where to go next. Its like it was a rush just to get it over and done with.
A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

A proud desert King!, 9 Sep 2008
By Marilyn Shoemaker - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Desert King, Pregnant Mistress (Harlequin Presents Extra) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is explosive! What a handsome and strong sheikh Kahl is........proud, firm and arrogant and he's smitten by a young woman from Liverpool that will blow any reader away! Kahl is bound by duty and at times ignores Beth Tracey Torrance and what's important to her. After their brief time together, she returns to Liverpool only to find out she's expecting the ruling sheikh's baby!
The shop girl from Liverpool is charming, strong, fierce and proud. She adores Kahl and when she returns to England and finds herself pregnant, her only thought is of her daughter Hannah. She misses Kahl but is determined to be the best mother ever!
This was a "feisty" read and at times very sad but it's another wonderful sheikh story by the incredible Susan Stephens and you won't be sorry you've read it and most of all you will never forget Beth Tracey Torrence!
