A Magical Journey of Epic Romance

Layla
After three years caring for her dying mother, Layla Callaway learns she was adopted under unusual circumstances. Following a cryptic message to seek her birth family in Oregon, Layla uproots her life to find out the truth about her past. And herself.

Quin
Quin's natural charisma is attractive to plenty of women, but he longs for the one he's been dreaming of his entire life. When that day arrives, not only is he breathless, he's confronted with the challenge of a lifetime - an innate need to keep her safe and forever by his side.

The Enemy
Through manipulation and dark magic, Agro uses the powers of others to elevate his supremacy and wealth. When he discovers Layla didn't die at birth, he sets out to find and possess her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Magical and Emotional 9 April 2013
Format:Paperback
Descension was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise for me. I signed up to this tour thinking the premise sounded really interesting and was eager to read the book, but at the back of my mind I had doubts about whether I'd like this book. Concerns aside, Burgess captured my attention with Descension and I'm certainly eager to get my hands on the next book in the series. However, I do feel like Descension was a more introductory novel to the series than one filled with action, whilst this didn't detract from my enjoyment and Burgess maintained my attention throughout the whole of the book with the two entwined romance stories across two time spans, I feel like to keep my interest the next novel will have to kick up the action. Despite this, I was fully invested in the idea and growth of the characters and the love story that Burgess delivered.

I find that the synopsis is rather misleading because at first I believed the novel would be about angels, but in fact it's witches. Either way it fulfilled my love of the paranormal. I haven't read a witch novel in a while and I thought Burgess approached the dynamic in an interesting way, but I want to see how she develops the witch dynamic further because we only began to touch on the idea of witchcraft and spells in the present day. I felt more invested in witchcraft in the time jump to the past with Layla's parents and I feel like we are still left I felt with many questions to the witches and their story as a general. However, I thought they were entirely realistic and believable in their powers that manipulated the earth elements and I liked the community feel of the covens.

"You don't have to do that," he said, opening his eyes.

"What did I... I didn't mean.. Did I hurt you?

I got this book when it was free on Amazon, I don't think I would have bought it from the description if I had to pay for it, Im really glad I got it free and decided to read it. Its not the best supernatural story iv read and took me a minute to get in to it but when I did I really enjoyed it, I will be buying the next one, It has the chemistry and a really good story within it, I actually cried at one part, so yeah id say its worth buying and most will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What love is all about! 21 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was lucky enough to be gifted this book by the author as a prize & absolutely loved it, so much so that I was straight on to book 2, Impassion! Loved the descriptive writing style, especially the descriptions of the scenery during Layla's journey to Oregon. The characters are very believable and I was so glad that Layla's parents' story was fully told rather than just snippets. There's a definite theme of love throughout the book with the addition of magic but always the threat of evil in the background to balance a great story. Looking forward to seeing how the characters and their relationships develop throughout the series.

I got this book at first because I got it for free. So glad I managed to stumble across this book. I absolutely fell in love with the story and characters after the first couple of chapters. It is a stunning book with a lot of surprises. The author is amazing. You actually feel what the characters feel with the way they write. You feel the heartache, the suspense and you feel like you're falling in love with the characters. I would recommend this book to everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring 17 Feb 2014
By Herbie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Didn't like this first book at all, it was long drawn out and should have been tied in with the second book of the series. Half the book was about Layla's parents and although important to the theme of the series didn't need all the fine details especially when the story wasn't about them and it was a vision from a ring. I read the second book as I was intrigued as to what was actually going on. The second book was much better but be patient because the third book has some all out action and emotion.....

2.0 out of 5 stars ???! 28 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the first half of the book but the second half let me down, Layla watched her parents memories but that took a lot of chapters when it could have been fit into one. Then the book could have gone back to Layla's POV. I myself write stories and I can point the mistakes out, I am also very young I am not even 16 yet I'm not going to put my real age because I am not stupid, sorry if this review is negative I only point out the stuff that needs improving on and rarely point out the good, I loved the plot though.
