This is book primarily about the fight of one man against Vampires. It is told in the retrospective by the main hero. I found it entirely engrossing and was extremely sorry it came to an end. The finale of the book has a twist to it that I wasn't expecting (not as shocking as that of Unspeakable, but still a bit of a jolt!)
As usual Graham Masterton's description of both the Second World War and the present time are supreme. His research is second to none. He makes you feel as if you are living his novels, he manages to just evoke feelings of both horror and sympathy, justice and disgust at the same time.
The protagonists are so well described that you can almost believe that they really are running around out there. Whole armies of Vampires being hunted by an obscure and secret branch of the various armed forces/police....
All told, I found the book to be very atmospheric, evocative of the time and a thrilling book to read. Left me wishing it was twice as long, but at the same time waiting for a sequel if he can find a way to make one seem viable.
