Derwent vs Faber-Castell
on 7 August 2015
I've been working on a pastel painting using a mix of these Derwent Pastel Pencils and Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils on Fabriano ingress paper. Although they are both sets of 36 there only a few colours that are exactly the same, so they complement each other quite well. The Derwent set has a few more vibrant colours like reds and oranges, whereas the Faber-Castell set is more earthy.
Their compared performance is similar but the Derwent pencils break easily and are more tricky to sharpen (even when using a Derwent sharpener designed for the job!) The Faber pencils are stronger and I haven't broken a single pencil yet, so I'm likely to stick with Faber from now on.
