Product Description

Style Name: 24 Tin

Pen and ink offers strong, intense colour combined with a translucent effect. Now you can enjoy these distinctive qualities in an easy to use pencil. Inktense has a highly blendable texture and comes in a range of 71 jewel-like colours, plus a non-soluble outliner which allows you to draw outlines that are permanent, even when water is applied. Apply pure, vibrant dry colour then wash the pigment out completely to leave an ink-like effect. Once dry, the colour is permanent and can be worked over with other media. The possibilities are endless, the results stunning. Inktense pencils can be used on fabric to create interesting silk paintings and unique quiliting projects.

Inktense tin of 24 contains the following colours: Sherbert Lemon, Sun Yellow, Tangerine, Poppy Red, Chilli Red, Shiraz, Fuchsia, Violet, Iris Blue, Bright Blue, Deep Indigo, Sea Blue, Teal Green, Apple Green, Field Green, Leaf Green, Mustard, Baked Earth, Willow, Bark, Ocean Grey, Black, Antique White and Outliner.

From the Manufacturer

Derwent Inktense Watercolour Pencils

The Inktense range combines the intensity of pen and ink with the versatility of line and wash. As highly pigmented colouring pencils when used dry or ink-like watercolour pencils when wet, Inktense offers vibrant, intense colour ideal for bold expressive drawings, without the mess associated with traditional watercolour paints.

Water-soluble

A watercolour painting can be created by applying a light wash to the dry colour to wash out the pigment for the ink effects. When dry the colour is permanent and can be worked over with other media allowing for finer detail and areas of vibrant colour to be added. A non-soluble outliner pencil is included within tins of 24 and above, which allows permanent outlines to be added, even when water is applied.

Ideal for a Diverse Range of Pencil Art

The 24 tin contains 23 Inktense water-soluble colours plus the non-soluble outliner pencil. The pencils are easy to sharpen and break resistant, making them ideal for long periods of use. They are incredibly versatile and are ideal for a diverse range of pencil art including Japanese manga, silk painting and unique quilting projects, suiting illustrators, flower artists and fashion designers amongst others.

Key Product Features

  • Soft leads allow for a quick lay down of colour
  • Vivid translucent ink-like effects are created when the pigment is washed out
  • A highly blendable texture ideal for rich tones
  • Once colours are washed out they dry quickly meaning very little bleed occurs
  • Rounded barrel ideal for broad, sweeping strokes
  • Colour coded ends for easy identification

Hello to all who are reading this! After reading the comments here and agreeing with the comments about the hexaganol pencils being a better quality, I contacted Derwent pencils via the main office number at 01296 397444. I spoke to a very nice lady named Sue Baldwin in the services section, who couldn't do enough for me and was extreamly helpful!
She explained that a "bad batch" had gone out some time ago and hadn't realised that any were still out there. All the quality problems have been resolved and they guarentee that all the pencils now are perfect and anyone could buy with confidence. Anyone who had any of the older "bad batch" would be issued a replacement by the company as long as the old ones were sent back to the following address. "Ms Barbara Murray, The Cumberland Pencil Company, Derwent House, Jubilee Road, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 4HS" Include a short note saying you believe that these pencils are not up to expectations and are probably from the "bad batch". Add your name and adress and they will be swopped for you.
Whatever quantity you send back will be replaced by a brand new one of the same colours, but perfect. If you purchased a tin of 72, or a tin of 12 it doesnt matter, they will exchange them for you. Mine has just returned today - Friday - after sending them back on Monday and the difference is obvious - the pigment quality is how it should be and the colours are fantastic! Hows that for customer service and feeling you can buy will confidence? I have bought Derwent sets before and never had a problem - the quality is always A+, and these are now no exception.

I purchased these pencils hoping for a fairly cheap solution to help add some colour to concept drawings. i researched these and decided it was worth the money to test them out, and well..
even without the water they offer a rich deep colour that blows you away. useable straight out of the tin these deliver above and beyond. and when you add water the pencil becomes an intense vibrant colour that looks clean crisp and professional. respect every good word about these pencils i love them and will defenitly keep useing these until i find something that is even better than these.
A brilliant buy for the budding artist or watercolourist, chuffed to bits!

These water soluble crayons are excellent for anyone who has difficulty holding a brush steady for traditional painting. They cover well and shade neatly from pastel to darker shades. All become darker when water is added.
I haven't yet mastered blending colours to my satisfaction to create even more tones, though I am assured this is possible.
Yellow can be difficult but Derwent's "sun yellow" is a rich vibrant shade. Black reaches a reasonable depth of colour but looks rather dull.
For once I am looking forward to cold, winter days when I can stay in and create interesting pictures. (I hope)

I have been using watercolour pencils most of my life,
Derwent in my opinion are more versitile for my needs, for art work and craft.
These inktense what can i say "wow" what depth of colour on their own,
but add water what vibrant colours this is due to the pure pigment.
highly recommend.

I bought the smaller tin of these pencils to try a while ago. The original pencils that I bought in the smaller tin are hexagonal shape and are a joy to hold... shiney and new. Colours all did what they were supposed too as marked. Thought great! So bought the larger tin of 72 with the wider range of colours .....

I am disappointed with this product provided in this 72 penciled tin. The pencils are round, rough, coarse and poorly finished. Not nice to hold at all! The numbering of the pencils with the same colours as the smaller tin are numbered differently. The pencils are cheapish in price but are of a considerable lower standard finish than the original smaller tin I bought. Awful to use. The tips are rough too ... Some colours, when they are used, do not match the coloured ends that show the final colour when water has been added i.e. I have an obvious yellow tipped pencil but the end shows that its final colour is green when actually its bright sunshine yellow!? The 72 penciled tin came plastic wrapped (as they should) but no colour chart was included... I had to make my own. I know these are seconds! - No mention of this in the description details that I could find - so you get what you pay for... however having tried them they do seem to work as they should but then I am no expert in this and MY colour chart is of great use. When I bought the Derwent Inktense, I expected it to be gimmicky, but this is so amazing! Once you wet the colour on the page, you can spread it with a paintbrush or Derwent waterbrush, and once it's wet, it's permanent! You can even use it on fabrics!
An excellent buy! If I could rate it 6 stars, I would!
