Interesting new research has just been published in the British Medical Journal titled:
Home versus outpatient ultraviolet B phototherapy for mild to severe psoriasis
Objective To determine whether ultraviolet B phototherapy at home is equally safe and equally effective as ultraviolet B phototherapy in an outpatient setting for patients with psoriasis.
Conclusion Ultraviolet B phototherapy administered at home is equally safe and equally effective, both clinically and for quality of life, as ultraviolet B phototherapy administered in an outpatient setting. Furthermore, ultraviolet B phototherapy at home resulted in a lower burden of treatment and led to greater patients' satisfaction.

I didn't buy this lamp here, it was much cheaper on the distributor's own website - see Androv Medical.
The lamp is approx 20 long, feels well built and comes with a useful cord around 3m long. The double UVB buld is protected by a comb adaptor which also serves to prevent the lamp being in too close contact with the skin. The lamp and mains adaptor come supplied in a tough plastic carry case which is very useful for protecting the lamp if you travel a lot, as I do. Also supplied are a pair of good quality protective wrap around goggles.
I suffer from affected areas mainly on the outer calves, a small area on each elbow and 5 very small patches on my scalp. I have tried various topical solutions, creams, wash gels/soaps and also acupuncture all with very minor benefits.
After using the lamp (as per the instructions) for just two weeks now, the results are amazing. The rough & flaky skin on my elbows has virtually disappeared, although the underlying skin is still somewhat darker than normal. The affected areas on my claves are also responding very well, with far less flakiness and are quite smooth after applying a good cream after the light treatment.
I am using the lamp according to the instructions, each affected area between 2-3 minutes and treating two days running and then missing the third.
Be careful not to exceed the recommended exposure - although this is only a small lamp, the exposure is very strong and sensitive areas can burn easily.

I purchased one of these after coming back several times to look at them and not wanting to waste money on another gadget that didn't work.
I noticed a significant improvement on a patch on my leg due to the sun after spending some time in shorts last summer, and this pushed me into buying one. I have used the lamp for about 6 weeks now and another patch I had at the bottom of my back has virtually disappeared due to treatment with the lamp.
The one down side is the lamp can only do one area at a time (approx 10 cm) and the treatment is for approx 4 mins, so if your psoriasis is servere it could take some time to treat, Anyway, it worked for me.....

I was recently bought this as a gift from my parents. I(Used to!) have small, acute areas of plaque Psoriasis on my knees, Elbows and knuckles. The sun has always worked wonders for my Eczema, so I though I'd give it a go.
I'd recently finished a course of topical cream and the Psoriasis soon started to kick again. The lamp arrived well packed and in good time. It comes in a sturdy travel case and includes a comb (for scalp conditions), a timer and some UV glasses.
Instructions were included, but only had information about safety and maintenance. There were no guidelines on how to actually use the lamp - only a message advising to use under the guidence from your dermatolgoist.I imagine this is simpley there to cover the producer legally. After a few internet searches looking for other peoples experiences on usage, I determined that 2 mins of use evry other day was the norm. I've been using this method for the last 2 weeks and haven't seen the Psoriasis since! I always use the timer and am careful not to over do it - I've no doubt you could get burnt with over use (+ the obvious risks with overexposure to UV Rays!). Always moisturise the areas after use.
As other users have said, this product is really only suited to small areas of skin - For me its perfect. Highly recomended.
