Product Description

Review

"...without a doubt the best dermatology textbook I have ever seen" European Medical Journal --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

"The hallmarks of the book are its superb collection of colour images, probably the clearest I've seen in a dermatology text. The text itself is clear and concise. Diagrams are helpful as are the key points which are in a yellow box at the end of each topic. In conclusion, I would say this: go to your consulting room bookshelves, remove the 3rd edition and replace it with the 4th edition and make sure it is within easy reach. As we all know, about 20% of all consultations are skin related and you could be referring to this book every day!"
"Univadis Medical Portal" - February 2008

This is one of the best of the 'shorter' dermatology books, aimed, I expect, at those who want enough knowledge to cope but not to overwhelm. It has lots of photos, and some easy to understand diagrams which really help to explain the structure and function of the skin. The text is concise and further detail is provided in tables with further facts. Each topic is covered usually on 1 double page with a summary at the end. I did have other dermatology books before this one, but this book supplanted them in my affections! It is a little weak on some topics, like disease in the nails, but also has some more unusual topics like treatments soon to arrive, photodermatology and so on. And the fact that each topic gets only a double page means that you feel you've acheived something even if you only read 2 pages!

An essential text 3 April 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If you only want 1 dermatology book, this should be it. Aimed at GP/SHO level, it provides information about all the major Dermatology conditions in a concise and well written format, but with more detail at times than some of the bigger books. Each double page is devoted to one condition/group of conditions and there is a summary at the end of each double page. There are also enough photographs to illustrate the conditions, in what is, essentially, a visual part of medicine. It should be your first book in Dermatology, though registrars and up will need greater detail.

The chapters have been classified into three main colour coded sections, guiding the reader through the scientific basis of dermatology and its clinical applications. Each topic is presented on double page spreads incorporating line drawings, tables and at a glance "key points" boxes. High resolution colour photographs, essential to differentiating between various dermatological conditions are strategically placed to break up, but simultaneously supplement, the text. The text itself is set out logically, incorporating bullet points and "information boxes", with minimal jargon. All the essential information is packed into each double page unit, without overcrowding the pages or resorting to text which requires a magnifying glass to read. In a nutshell, a core text which provides a "quick stop tour" to dermatology, with the perfect balance between text and illustrations.
