Product Description

Dermatix is a transparent, self-drying silicone gel that improves the appearance of scars. * Softens and flattens raised scars * Fades red or dark scars * Relieves the itching and discomfort of scars Dermatix is a Topical Silicone Gel that is transparent, self-drying and maintains the skin's moisture balance, while aiding the management of scarred skin surfaces resulting from surgery, burns and other injuries. Dermatix has shown to flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieve the itching and discomfort of scars as well as reduce the discolouration associated with scars. Dermatix gel is easily applied to all areas of the skin, including the face, joints and flexures, and dries rapidly to form an invisible "sheet". Dermatix was developed using the same basic long chain polymers as topical silicone gel sheeting, but it is available in a tube. It contains polysiloxane, silicon dioxide. The gel is supplied in tubes of 15g. What is Dermatix gel used for? Dermatix is used for the management of scars after the wound has healed and the skin surface is intact, and in the prevention of scar development in the form of keloids and hypertrophic scars resulting from general surgical procedures, trauma wounds and burns.

I recently had several moles removed from my face. I have been using this gel for maybe a month now, and can definitely see the improvements. They are barely red anymore, and getting less and less noticeable.

Having used Dematix and ScarAway 'Silicone Sheets' for several months, I have found noticeable improvement in my small kelloid scars that were left by acne (and which at the age of 23, continues to be a problem without management). The main attraction to silicone treatment is that it's completely natural, because all the substance does is create a mini 'atmosphere' over the affected area which accelerates regeneration in the skin. It's pretty amazing what heat and moisture can do.

However, the silicone sheets have only been affective up to a certain point, and now they just don't seem to have the same impact as the first month of treatment. This highlights what may be a flaw the sheets, as it's almost impossible to keep them flush with the skin surface once the kelloids lose a lot of their roundness. For myself, the hairs on my arms were actually pushing the sheets away from the skin, and for the affected areas on my back/shoulders, they would just peel and flop away with constant body movement. Using surgical tape to keep them in place is time consuming and plain annoying.

The alternative to these sheets is the topical 'gel' that can be spread over the affected area, and provides the same method of treatment. This product costs almost twice as much as the sheets, but it is a far, far more practical solution by all accounts. You simply squeeze the gel out onto the affected, massage it in, and then wash away for another application about every 12 hours (or morning and night, if it's simpler).

You only get 15 grams which is disappointing, although it is clearly advertised so I knew what to expect. The consolation however is that you only need teeny-tiny amounts, which makes a change from other products that tempt you to really lather the stuff in.

I had Mohs micrographic surgery for a Basal Cell carcinoma on my nose 6 weeks ago. The scar was very noticeable, red and raised. I had a course of antibiotics straight after surgery, just in case, and it appeared to be healing. Last week, I noticed that is was tighter, more angry looking and after working a shift (as a Staff Nurse) with a plastic surgeon, he advised that he thought the scar was hypertrophic. Got a doctors appointment on Tuesday of this week and left with a prescription for this cream (the surgeon had recommended it but doubted the GP would prescribe it due to the cost) The cream had to be ordered by the pharmacy so I only received it on Wednesday. Now, after applying it twice a day for two days, I can honestly say my scar has improved remarkably and I am delighted! It is a small tube but you don't need a lot anyway and it's well worth the money if your GP won't prescribe it, in my opinion.

I wanted to wait a couple of months before writing this so that I could give a complete review about the state of my scar.

First of all, taking off 1 star for a slow delivery. Ordered on Thursday morning, and didn't arrive until the following Thursday. Not good enough there I'm afraid.

And now onto the scar! I'd been the victim of an assault that created a gash accross my eyebrow. The nurse at Kingston A&E did a terrible job of glueing it back together (it probably needed stitches to be honest but who am I to argue?), with some of the cut left quite wide, and some "pinched" accross the skin. It left a very unsightly looking situation. I heard good things about this Dermatix from the Pharmacist in Boots. They wouldn't sell it without prescription, so I decided to give it a stab on Amazon.

And I'm very glad I did ! The scabs had peeled off, but the skin was still very red (and deep) in some places when I started applying the gel. As others have mentioned, The 15 gram bottle is miniscule, but you don't need to lather the stuff on. Just a pea-sized amount massaged in. Within days I had noticed a vast improvement in the depth of the scar. I didn't notice a great reduction in the redness/colouring though. It was definitely fading, but I'm pretty sure that's not down to the gel, more a case of time healing the wound.

But after a month of use, I noticed the effectiveness has now dropped. There's still redness and a very slight indentation, and this has been the case for weeks now. I would propose that this stuff is very good on rejuvinating new skin cells, but perhaps not so great once the skin is mature (I can't think of a better word than "mature" !).

Does what it says on the tin! New surgery care reduced significantly both in height and colour. Came very well recommended by a friend who had used it and said it reduced the scar to such an extent that even when tanning many years later there is no visible evidence of the scar other than a very feint line.

Fantastic product has worked wonderfully well although it may have something to do with the massage action of rubbing it in to the scar as much as the product itself. Would recommend using as soon as possible once scar is settled. Well worth the money though!
