Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Peter Cook and Dudley Moore put on the guises of Derek and Clive one final time in Derek and Clive Get the Horn. The film mostly records the two feuding stars as they are in the studio recording their record. It consists of a number of brilliant comic sketches as well as a wealth of footage of Pete and Dud verbally abusing each other, mostly while drunk. Famously banned by the British Board of Film Censors upon its completion, this film is not only an excellent documentation of one of the funniest comic duos of the 20th century, but is also a fascinating portrait of the excesses and tension between two creative minds who have come to an impasse. ...Derek and Clive Get the Horn ( Derek & Clive Get the Horn )

Brilliant 28 Jan 2006
Format:DVD
Look... this isn't for everyone. It's Peter Cook and Dudley Moore going back for one last excursion into the world of "Derek and Clive." For the uninitiated, Pete and Dud hit on an unsurpassed comic concept of wallowing in vulgarity and absurdity which knew no bounds. Fortuntately, Cook was a brilliant comic who was at his best at improvisation. Moore could not have been a better "foil" and was able to keep up with Cook's ideas and helped taking them all the way to their - sometimes very clever or dreadful - end.

This is the only filmed document (that I'm aware) of their collaboration on this particular comic endeavor - and its priceless. There's been a lot of talk about how they were at odds at this time, and the humour (and their relationship) was strained. Well, I've watched this countless times, and can't help finding the material and chemistry absolutely magic.

They did reunite for the release of this video (which had only been available for years as a bootleg). So all the noise about them disagreeing on the final product is up for debate.

What's not debatable (OK - for some folks it might be) is this is great fun and highly recommeded to anyone who appreciates extremely ribald, imaginitive comedy.

Oh, and some of the compalints about the 16mm film stock and poor lighting, etc... Please. This isn't a George Lucas epic. Its two well-matched, talented comics having some fun in a studio somewhere in London.

Its really quite sad they've both passed.

Classic video footage of the dwindling relationship between Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. This video was the stone that sank the ship. Dud was not overly keen on recording another Derek and Clive tape, not since his career was taking off rather well (at the time) back in Hollywood, he was even more mortified when he arrived to find people were there filming it. Peter was in a mess, and despite having begged Dud to take part in this project, he treated him no better, talked down to him... and was generally nasty. The fine balance that Pete and Dud had once had, that of the knowledgeable fool and the unknowledgeable fool was shattered, Dud no longer looked at pete in awe of his comic genius, but was rather sickened to the depths he had sunk too. He plays along, but it isn't natuarl, It is interesting to note that the filming for this was booked for 3 days, Dud did not return to the studio on the third day, he had had enough. It is genuinely funny in a very coarse way, do not watch if you take offence at anything at all. See Pete kick ... of a blow up doll! See the pure unadulterated pain of comedy

Classic 5 Aug 2005
By Michael Jacobs VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Some people love it, some hate it, but I fall into the former category.

Although it's different actually seeing them when compared to an audio CD or something similar, it's still just as rewarding and entertaining. I seem to recall paying the list price for it when I purcahsed it, and it still seemed worth it then, so this price of under £6.00 seems a bargain. Will be a classic for the collection, and there's nothing quite like it.

Ultimately, this is not a comedy film. It is best regarded as a documentary on the final stages of the break-down of a once wonderfully funny double act, and as such it is very... Read more

Laugh? I almost slept...
It's really not all that funny, y'know. I don't have a problem with the content of the film, not by any means at all, just that I find very little to actually laugh about. Read more
