5.0 out of 5 stars The best album of 2012. 24 Nov 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Every Jason Lytle/Grandaddy album has great songs. They are not all consistently good.

This one stands proudly next to The Software Slump, and may even be better. It's a proper album, and works as such.

Everyone will have different favourite songs - the title track's a brilliant grower; Matterhorn's sublime; The Last Problem of the Alps echoes Abbey Road and wears it lightly; Willow Wand Willow Wand is a simple little perfect polished jewel of a song - every sound is perfect, every motif enters at the perfect time and none outstays its welcome; Your Final Setting Sun should be number one in every nation simultaneously for a month - it's that good; and Gimme Click Gimme Grid is a shuffley heartfelt, beautiful poem. For me the worse song is Somewhere There's a Someone - it's a very fine piano ballad and is almost certainly somebody's favourite.

Just buy the damn thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars The theme continues. 20 Nov 2012
By D Lydon
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you like Grandaddy, you'll like this album. Jason's voice still sounds great and there is more use of old analogue keyboards and effects units than on his previous solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listening n' jammin! 13 Feb 2013
Format:MP3 Download|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am playing this at home, n' learning the changes for my guitar n' voice, in the car, on a walk...

I clocked the title track on BBC Radio n' thought to myself, this I want! It stood out with an intensity of " Gimme gimme I NEED THIS, over the rest of the playlist for many, many a day.

Money is tight, n' first off I just had the "Dept of Disappearance track". Further down the road my curiosity got the better of my wallet and I downloaded the complete melange.
I am not disappointed.

I hear shades of "They Might Be Giants", "Eno","10CC", "ELO", "Todd Rundrgren", Polyphonic Spree" "Chopin" Don't let my musical listening history put you off!

- N' this has to be my album of the year.

If this is a maybe for you dear reader, I'd suggest you press that button to buy now, cos it's a GEM!

Sliced bread? Mmmm, Much better than that by far!
Inspirational! Sonic deftness! Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's the Pilot 16 Oct 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think we need to move on. Grandaddy are a truly great band but Jason Lytles solo work has been just as infectious and life-affirming .
The musical doodles and the killer riffs are still there ( I defy you not to be playing the title track on a loop for the next few weeks).
Chopin made me laugh out loud and Get Up and Go is ,well,a sonic tonic of the first order.

Get Up and Get It Bought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent second solo album from Jason 31 Dec 2012
By A. Sweeney TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This, the second solo album from ex-Grandaddy songwriter and frontman, Jason Lytle, is a very grandiose affair. Beautiful, layered, lovingly-crafted music which rewards additional listening sessions, with spine-tingling, stress-melting vocals and a near-classical approach to composition. His first solo album, "Yours Truly The Commuter", remains one of my favourite albums of all time and, although this doesn't quite hit the heights of that superb album, it isn't far behind. My favourite tracks on the album are "Last Problem Of The Alps" and "Somewhere There's A Someone", both absolutely gorgeous pieces of music, but there isn't a bad piece of music to be found here. This album truly deserves to be heard be a lot of people. Those, especially, who enjoyed Grandaddy really shouldn't hesitate to buy this one.
