Product Description

Would you help, would you run, or would you just watch?

When a young woman is brutally assaulted by two men on the subway, her cries for help fall on the deaf ears of onlookers too terrified to get involved, her misery ended with the crushing stomp of a steel-toed boot. A cell phone video of her vicious murder, callously released on the Internet, its popularity a testament to today’s depraved society, serves as a trigger, pulled a year later, for a killer.

Emailed a video documenting the final moments of a woman’s life, entertainment reporter Aynslee Kai, rather than ask why the killer chose her to tell the story, decides to capitalize on the opportunity to further her career. Assigned to the case is Hayden Eldridge, a detective left to learn the ropes by a disgraced partner, and as videos continue to follow victims, he discovers they were all witnesses to the vicious subway murder a year earlier, proving sometimes just watching is fatal.

From the author of The Protocol, Depraved Difference is a fast-paced murder suspense novel with enough laughs, heartbreak, terror and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, then knock you flat on the floor with an ending so shocking, you’ll read it again just to pick up the clues.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful surprise! 13 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my kindle because I like a crime thriller and it was cheap. I was hooked from the beginning, the two storylines were fascinating, I did not see the finale coming and can honestly say this was one of the best books I have read in a long time. I will be looking out for this author and eagerly awaiting the next book. I was surprised that the author decided to self publish to keep prices down for readers and applaud him for this. If you are debating whether to buy this book or not I say 'go for it', you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected treat 18 April 2011
By FictionFan TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Being new to self-published books at ridiculously low prices, I started this book with low expectations - proof again of how wrong I can be! This is a great read, fast, furious, with more dead bodies than a holiday weekend in Midsomer.

As the blurb says the main story is about revenge killings of people who stood by and did nothing while a young woman is murdered. But it's also a look at how the internet and media can turn brutal crime into entertainment and the impact that can have on the people involved.

The two main characters, reporter Aynslee Kai and Detective Hayden Eldridge are both attractive, likeable people. Aynslee's crush on Hayden is very well handled and provides plenty of humour to act as a counterpoint to the darkness of the main plot. No spoilers, but yes, I was genuinely surprised by the ending.

Off now to check out the author's other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, A must read for crime fans 17 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Totally hooked from the first few pages.

Without giving anything away, there are two stories running side by side here, the main one being about the witness' to a brutal murder are now being murdered. The other one is a kidnapper keeping young girls locked up in a cellar. Eventually, the two stories collide and my goodness what an explosive ending!

This really has to be one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. Although we find out (if you havn't already worked it before then) who one killer is, the second one really took me by surprise.

I actually went back a few pages because I thought I had mis read something, but no I did have it right.

Will definately be looking for more books by J. Robert Kennedy and if they are as good as this I will quite happily pay a lot more than 86p for them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant !! 3 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Compelling story from start to finish.

This book explores two seemingly unrelated crimes. The first is a tale of revenge on the witnesses of a violent and unprovoked public murder, surprisingly done in that my sypathy was with both the initial victim and those who, for reasons of their own, did not act. The second is the story of missing women, held captive by an unkmown assailant. Towards the end both tales are expertly drawn together to shock and surprise in equal measures. I for one did not see the climax coming.

Det Shakespeare begins the journey as a washed up cop, lazily biding his time until retirement. He is slowly transformed and we are given a glimpse of the man he was, and may yet still be, laying the path for a sequel.

I will definitely be looking forward to the next installment !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great page turner I could not put down. 1 Mar 2013
By Babsso
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having now read a few of this authors books I am totally hooked. I love this imperfect hero and all his hangups. The story is great based around the murder of a women and the people who witnessed it and did nothing. Every action has a reaction of equal proportion and the reaction to this event makes a gripping story. If you are thinking I dont know this author I wonder if its worth it then buy this book and all the others you will not regret it. Like me you may well find you have found a new author to follow.
