Product Description

Product Description

Focusing on practical issues in deploying IPv6 in broadband networks, IPV6 in Broadband Access Networks provides in–depth configurations of different network elements while covering debugging and troubleshooting techniques for IPv6–related problems. The book is written by CCIEs who have been working with various customers worldwide on IPv6 deployment, standard bodies, and technical forums since 2002. Examples throughout the book provide network engineers and architects with detailed discussions of the various challenges faced by Service Providers today and how IPv6 addresses these issues.

From the Back Cover

An essential reference for deploying IPv6 in broadband networks

With the exponential growth of the Internet and increasing number of end users, service providers are increasingly looking for ways to expand their networks to meet the scalability requirements of the growing number of Internet–ready appliances or "always–on" devices. This book bridges a gap in the literature by providing coverage of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), specifically in broadband access networks. The authors, who are Cisco Certified Internetworking Experts (CCIE), provide comprehensive and first–rate coverage of:

  • IPv6 drivers in broadband networks

  • IPv6 deployment in Cable, DSL, ETTH, and Wireless networks

  • Configuring and troubleshooting IPv6 gateway routers and host

  • Configuring and troubleshooting IPv6 edge routers

  • Configuring and troubleshooting IPv6 provisioning servers

The authors also discuss challenges faced by service providers and how IPv6 addresses these issues. Additionally, the book is complemented with examples throughout to further facilitate readers′ comprehension and a real large–scale IPv6 BB SP case study is presented. Deploying IPv6 in Broadband Access Networks is essential reading for network operators, network design engineers and consultants, network architects, and members of the networking community.

Authoritative, Comprehensive, and Practical 3 Aug 2010
By Don - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I think the previous reviewer was unfair. In those chapters on implementation it is true that only Cisco network systems are used (25 hits for "Cisco" and none for competitors) (however, in computers Microsoft, Linux, Solaris, Mac, etc. are covered). The author is the co-author of an RFC on the topic of this book (RFC 4779), so he has plenty of knowledge and credibility. I've just started reading the RFC and the book so this review is preliminary, but skimming them it is apparent that many suggestions and industry specific comments that don't belong in an RFC are present in the book. Also background and quick refreshers on IPv6 and the broadband technologies (DSL, Cable, etc.) are in the book so the reader can concentrate on the IPv6 deployment details (instead of being lost because they forgot something more basic). There is even an appendix on 6rd, which is a recent method for deployment. Covers cable, DSL, wireless, and Ethernet technologies. Also covers both customer edge and provider edge routers.

Cisco Marketing 25 Sep 2009
By Sears A. Merritt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This review is written to promote Cisco products and services. It is NOT a strategic guide on the deployment of IPv6 in broadband access networks. I specifically purchased this text because it was published under Wiley and NOT Cisco Press. If you are looking for a strategic guide regarding address planning, DHCPv6 vs. Auto-Config and the like, this text is not the proper choice.
The only book about IPv6 in Access Networks 7 July 2011
By Jaris - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book because it's the only one that includes IPv6 in Access Networks, therefore the main topics should be DHCPv6, PPPv6 and Radiusv6, but the book doesn't cover all of them in a depth way, it just explains the basic theory behind them and show some examples with Cisco IOS. I found more information on the RFC about each protocol that I mentioned before; by the way, the book is smaller than others so it could be compared as a Handbook.
So for people looking for a complete book about IPv6 and Access Protocols, this book could be used only as an introduction. I realized that there's no any full book for IPv6.
Finally, about the package, I didn't have any problem, Amazon always does a good job.
