Product Description

Bob Monkhouse and Kenneth Connor star in this dental comedy caper. Colonel J.J. Proudfoot (Eric Barker) of Proudfoot Industries is looking for a qualified dentist to endorse his new brand of toothpaste, knowing full well that such an alliance would result in said dentist being struck off poste haste. He gets lucky when he finds two inept dental school graduates, David Cookson and Sam Field (Monkhouse and Connor), who fail to read the contract before realising that they have sacrificed their entire career for a brand of toothpaste that doesn't even work. Dental gags and puns abound as the daft duo embark on a series of ever more desperate attempts to salvage their prospects. Shirley Eaton co-stars as the sexy dental nurse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another British comedy gem. 15 Jan 2006
Format:DVD
Anyone who enjoys the "sunday afternoon" type of comedy films will enjoy this little classic which features a great performance from Bob Monkhouse and a cameo from Carry On legend Charles Hawtrey. It also stars Bond girl and Carry On Star Shirley Eaton.
If you have seen the brief opening sequence to this on the Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD and longed to see the film itself, do so!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, uncomplicated, clean 17 Mar 2011
By UK Filmbuff TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Bob Monkhouse stars in this British farce about a group of dentists who only just manage to pass their examinations and become qualified. Their future isn't exactly promising and they are earnestly advised not to practice in the "real world".

A manufacturer of "Dream" toothpaste is desperate to secure the approval of a qualified dentist. However, practicing dentists aren't permitted to give their name to a product and continue practicing. Hence, the company dupes the newly qualified David Cookson (Bob Monkhouse) into recommending their product, with the promise of a high salary. He invites his two chums, Brian Dexter (Ronnie Stevens) and Sam Field (Kenneth Connor) to join him at "Proudfoot" and soon they set out to improve the dental hygiene of the factory staff.

Alas, though, they have "caught the eye" of Colonel J J Proudfoot (Eric Barker) who isn't entirely convinced about their "qualifications".

Through a series of events, they manage to stumble across a new formula for a toothpaste that really works and makes teeth whiter than white. However, they have to firstly "sell" the idea to Colonel Proudfoot and then ensure that the product is marketed in an entirely modern way!

How they do this is for you to watch and find out!

Fun and frolics from an excellent cast. The story is highly amusing and, as usual, the late great Kenneth Connor shows his versatility by masquerading as.... I won't spoil it! It is a truly memorable performance!

The ever lovely Shirley Eaton provides the "romance" and shines as always. And as for Bob? Flawless as ever! He was a true professional!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny 10 July 2013

Received this this morning, and just finished watching it! Clear picture- no problems. No subs, but I knew that when I got it anyway. Good acting- takes one back to the days when TV had no political correctness! I am now thinking of getting "Dentist in The Chair" when I am able. I have put it in my basket "saved for later".

Bob Monkhouse's brief flirtation with films started with this comedy gem. However, he is outshone by a hilarious performance by Kenneth Connor who deliverys my all time favourite line in film history. I won't mention what he says but it's his answer to how he was able to be sentenced to a woman's prison. Priceless.
