The Denon Ceol RCD-N8 is likely to impress you in every way you can think of and cater for all of your music/audio needs. This music system includes a CD mechanism, and also a built in WiFi antenna which allows you to stream music from any servers or compatible devices on your home network. Since the last version of the Ceol (RCD-N7), Denon have added AirPlay support for the system which means you can now stream your music straight from an Apple device and iTunes. Thanks to the WiFi antenna you can also control it using the new Denon Remote App for iOS and Android.

Usability & Operation
----------------------------------------
When you first boot up the system it will launch the Quick Setup mode which will take you through network and language settings. Setting both of these things in an absolute breeze and should take you no more than 5 minutes maximum. With the included remote you can enter your wireless network key with ease, or also use the WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) button on the back of the main device to connect.

One thing I was quite worried about was the strength of my WiFi signal and whether the Denon Ceol would actually pick it up. Within a few seconds of searching for my wireless network it appeared on the screen and I input my password, that was it. The signal never dropped once when listening to the internet radio or streaming from my music server which I was very surprised at due to the strength of it. This could partially be thanks to the addition of a diversity antenna.

Choosing between the different input sources is made easy with the remote and also the nicely sized OLED screen.

I was looking for a high quality amplifier with AirPlay functionality & found the Denon on Amazon.
Having researched on the Denon Website & potential suppliers I found a good price from Best AV Centre who supplied the unit without speakers (as I have my own from a former separates system).
The device is wonderful. It has connected simply into my home network, both on WiFi which is how I am using it regularly and I also tested it using Ethernet over Power adaptors from Solwise (200AV). Select CEOL from any iDevice and the the unit wakes itself up and starts to play (we have two iPhones, and iPad and iTunes available in the network). So ... job done I thought.

BUT then I started exploring the other functionality (CD obviously and FM Radio... though no DAB) all worked flawlessly. Then the coupe de grace ... Internet Radio and DLNA. I have never explored internet radio before, but have become a convert when you can play back through such a well specified amplifier. And ... since I have Windows Media Player on my Vista PC I have a readily available DLNA Music Server.. so all my MP3 and AAC music can be 'pulled' from the server to be played rather than pushed from an iDevice using Airplay. Either way, a superb sound. Finally, I downloaded the Denon Remote App for iPhone & iPad which provides an enhanced interface for directing the CEOL remotely without using the supplied IR Remote Control. If the CEOL (mine is in shiny piano black) didnt look the part, I could hide it away in a cupboard and control it using my iPhone/iPad.

I LOVE IT.

Oh... a tiny niggle ...I have reported an obscure bug in the interaction between the Denon Remote App, the Internet Radio DB and the CEOL.. but Denon Customer Service were on the case very quickly, confirmed the bug and are working to issue an update to the Denon App to resolve. Very impressed.

I bought this as I was unable to connect my new DVD player to my very old amplifier, and I'd been considering getting some sort of networked music system for a while. This provides everything I need - a CD player that I can connect to my existing speakers (I still have loads of CDs that frankly I can't be bothered ripping!), digital/intenet radio, and a networked system so I can play my music downloads directly from my computer.

I should point out now that I'm pretty inept when it comes to technical stuff, but even I managed to set it up without a glitch. The only slight difficulty I had was bi-wiring my speakers, as there's only one pair of inputs for each speaker - so it was a bit of a fiddle, but now that it's set up it's working well and sounds great.

Stonking bit of kit. Sound is great, and the internet radio is easy to use. Shjame it doesn't have DAB, but you can't have everything. Oh, I had to add a loft aeriel for the FM radio, as the one supplied is pathetic.

I bought this from Richer Sounds at a higher price than this. My primary interest was to use it for Spotify and I am very pleased with it. WiFi connection to a BT Home Hub works very well, I have not needed to use an ethernet connection. On a few occasions it has lost connection but by reselecting Spotify it has reconnected with no problem. Internet radio works well .. on occasion BBC stations pause and rebuffer but I suspect that this is a problem with the BBC servers rather than the RCD. I have used Airplay connecting to an iPad.. that has also worked well. I have found this to be a good value piece of kit.. a decent amp and cd player .. good quality FM tuner, ok internet radio and the online music function with Spotify works very well. I have not connected an iPod so cannot comment on that.. but that's not why I bought it.
