I bought this for my son on the basis of good reviews in What-Hifi and because I know Denon is a respected brand for serious audiophiles. I am surprised how good it sounds compared with my own Cambridge Audio separates. This little unit punches well above its weight in terms of sound quality. It's versatile too, supporting just about any reasonable input source apart from vinyl. Only complaints are the unit does not look that great from the top or sides, just lots of black metal with holes in; the volume knob feels rather cheap, thought it works ok; and you can barely do anything without the remote. But what do you expect at this price? I'm glad they spent the money on the sound quality instead of an expensive box.
I bought Q Acoustics 2010 speakers to go with it, rather than Denon's own speakers, which get much worse reviews. The speakers match the Denon unit perfectly, and together they sound like a much more expensive hifi. I bought both at the same time from Peter Tyson online. To my very great surprise, they threw in free of charge some decent quality speaker cable -- about 8 metres of cable rather like QED 79 strand.
