High-quality engineering for faithful sound reproduction

Delivering up to 65 watts per channel, the CEOL's circuitry features short and direct signal pathways, helping to minimise interference and other unwanted sound artifacts. In addition, a special contour function tailors the audio signal to match the characteristics of the speakers. The result is high-fidelity sound.

Optional matching two-speaker system delivers rich, detailed audio

The CEOL Network Music System uses two Denon SC-N5 speakers (sold separately) to deliver bold, dynamic audio. With their compact cabinet design, these speakers can easily fit on a desktop or shelf. Each speaker is outfitted with a 4-inch woofer and a 1-inch high-definition tweeter, ensuring precise sound reproduction across a full range of frequencies.

Dock for easy music streaming

Equipped with an iPod dock, the CEOL can stream music from your iPod, iPod touch, or iPhone. You'll be able to enjoy your favourite music, podcasts, and audio books with crisp sound quality. The system also charges your device while it is docked, regardless of whether it is in use or on standby.

Versatile connectivity options

With its optical digital input and stereo audio input, the system can connect to a variety of devices, including MP3 players, CD players, HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and cable/satellite TV tuners. You can also connect a subwoofer to enrich bass response even further thanks to the system's mono output.

Intuitive remote control

The CEOL comes with a remote control (batteries included), which provides easy and intuitive control over all functions. The system is also compatible with the Denon Remote App, so you can wirelessly control the system using your iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, or Android mobile device.

This is a smart system, and sounds great, but not without the glitches one expects from pretty much every modern computer based network device. It seems to get confused when network sources last used are turned off whilst it is sleeping, for example. Needs powering off and on at mains to sort that one. The hairiest bit for me being its insistence on updating its firmware the first time I turned it back on after initial setting up. It tried to do this via the wifi connection, and failed. At that point it entered groundhog day mode, trying, and failing, consistently (a process of many many minutes, if not hours each time) to perform the update. Eventually it presented a fairly meaningless generic failure message. Nothing as straightforward as 'firmware update failed - perform a factory reset'. It did a passable imitation of an expensive brick at this point - scary for a little while. Having witnessed similar recently with a Yamaha AV amp I did some googling, found how to perform a factory reset and forced it to do a firmware update via wired connection before turning it off again. That resolved it, but it occurred to me that not everyone would be comfortable having to either do that, or even be aware that it was necessary or how to go about it. Great for the smartphone generation, but not Victor Meldrew - amazes me that everyone seems to accept that they (smartphones) don't work reliably and need turning off and on regularly to kick them back to life. Whatever happened to system testing...Rant over. Summary = it looks smart, sounds good but may need a little knowledge, and tolerance of its foibles.

Wanted a new system as the focal point for a new kitchen/diner. This won the day over a widescreen TV and I'm glad it did especially as I picked it up on a Warehouse Deal.

Functionality wise this has everything the family needed now and in the future - CD, internet radio, iPod dock. Didn't really register that it had Spotify but we've since bought a Premium subscription and that has changed our lives.

Had my doubts around reliability reading reviews and these have been well founded. Connecting to internet radio was a challenge and as a result the unit was on the verge of being sent back. Spotify was much better. It's working 100% now but it does have the occasional funny 5 minutes...switching off/on the router normally fixes it.

Sound quality is great. Bit plasticky and quite a chunky unit but aren't they all?

Easy to use once correctly set up. Keeping an eye on it though!

My original intention was to add a DAB tuner to an aged Technics Receiver and Technics CD which have been used with a pair of wall mounted Tannoy 628 speakers in a kitchen/dining/sunroom area. I soon realised that good quality DAB tuners were very expensive and DAB is probably not the long term future, so I began looking into internet radio.

Having bought a Denon Ceol N8, still connected to the Tannoys, the results are looking very good - the Ceol was easy to set up, even for a senior numpty like myself, the sound is quite excellent and the range of internet stations available a total revelation! I have saved most of our CD collection onto iTunes and am intending to connect our main Technics sound system in our living area to the computer via an external USB sound card - as this system has amp & tuner situated a few metres from our desktop computer, I am able to hardwire this new connection, so I should be able to enjoy internet radio from iTunes on the 'big stereo' which uses Tannoy DC 2000 speakers. Before installing the new system, I connected the new Denon directly to these DC 2000 speakers at one point, and there was absolutely no problem in driving them.

So all is well, and I can certainly recommend the Denon Ceol N8, even to replace high quality separates, and can also report that the Denon technical helpline staff are excellent - I had a minor problem with my BT home hub during installation, and their engineer quickly led me through the right proceedure to correct the problem with the router. Well done Denon!

Update - 3 months after purchase, we are very pleased with our Ceol N8.
