4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound but Careful with your Voice! 16 Sep 2010
I had the non-mic version of these headphones and loved them. When I got a great new smartphone (HTC flavour) I wanted to consolidate my headphones into one for music and also for calls. It seems that the Denons would be the perfect solution, and they are but with one incredibly huge caveat! The sound isolation works REALLY well! When you're on a call, it seems as if the person on the other end is inside you head. The sound is so great and the isolation from outside sound so successful that you won't hear your voice... which will be severely audible to people hundreds of meters away! So, lesson learned... buy these headphones, but use only one headphone at a time on calls or risk a smack on the head from a little old lady's purse!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound, shame about the build quality 4 Feb 2012
    By G

Used these a couple of times and was really impressed with the sound. The foam tips made for very comfortable wearing. On the third use however, removing the right earphone resulted in the housing breaking in two. Obviously this wasn't through too much force - how much force to you need to remove one of these?! Looking at the internal clips that hold it together, of the four two were bent/floppy. This may have been a fault at the time of manufacture, or I was just unlucky. I am returning the item for a refund. I am going to order another pair however, and see how those perform, as the sound from these is second to none.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good 6 Sep 2011
    By Ash
Solid, robust headphones. Only the middle of the three buttons works on my HTC - this is for calling/ending calls and playing/pausing music. The volume buttons do not work. The head phones are very comfortable and you cannot hear the outside world. Purchased as a replacement for my Sennheiser CX300's which broke; one ear went dead and then the other. The sound is very good on the Denon's however not as basey as the Sennheisers. Will write another review if these break within six months, but seem very sturdy for now.

Excellent sound but very poor build quality (very stiff plastic sleeving which hates the cold and doesn't like being bent). Mine lasted about 4 months before they started falling apart. They were sold with a 90 day warranty so beware as they won't be exchanged unless you have purchased an additional warranty. Avoid these unless you can afford to pay £50.00 every few months for a replacement or are prepared to pay £15.00 for an optional 3 year warranty. If you do go for the warranty option then hang on to all the packaging because you will be sending these back in due course!

    Dear Mike

    Thank you for your email.

We're sorry to learn your item is no longer working or has developed a fault.

This was sold with a Trusted Goods 90-day warranty only. As the warranty period has expired we are no longer able to offer a warranty repair or replacement.

    Best Regards

    Adam

I do not recommend these headphones as the left ear piece broke within 2 weeks,
The sound isn't bad but the quality of structure is poor.

I recently found these online for a good price and decided to take the plunge since I needed some better headphones than the JVC Xplosives for listening to my iPod whilst on the move. Overall these are very good headphones and conform with Denon's excellent reputation for producing excellent audio products.

    The good points...
    * Excellent audio quality with great presence (less 'airy' and less treble harshness than the Sennheiser CX870 yet far crisper than the JVC Xplosives).
    * Good sound isolation and excellent fit ensure that you don't need to push up the volume to hear your music.
    * Brilliant sound stage and individual instrument separation means you can really hear the details of each individual instrument in the song.. far superior in this respect to both the CX870 and the JVC Xplosives.
    * These feel very sturdy and durable (a well-made product), unlike the CX870 which have a much thinner cable, feel cheaper and are probably more likely to break.
    * Sub-bass frequencies are slightly boosted but this works well and definitely compliments genres such as trance, dubstep, d&b etc.
    * The remote for controlling volume, changing songs and answering calls is extremely convenient for iPhone users.

    The not so good...
    * Remote compatibility is restricted to recent iPhones, iPods and iPads only. A shame since I would have loved for this to work with my Galaxy S2. The play/pause button DOES work however with the galaxy S2. Strangely it doesn't work at all with my first generation iPod classic 160GB (it is compatible with the newest iPod classic however). At the end of the day the remote is just an added luxury to an already excellent product so its not really a big deal that I can't use it to its full potential.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad quality cord 17 April 2013
    By Admiral

Sound is not bad, I even say good. However, the trouble is in the cord. It's very rigid and this is the ,main cause of the cable breaks.

By the way, in the cold cord becomes even harder

    5.0 out of 5 stars Massively under-priced. 12 Dec 2012

These sound fantastic. I would say I am an amateur audiophile. I use a HRT headstreamer and a pair of Yamaha HPH-200 headphones on my pc, so I wanted a similar quality of sound when I'm out and about. I use these headphones in my i-Phone which, in my opinion, produces a fantastic output sound and these earphones compliment that so brilliantly; it is such a shame that the earphones provided with the i-Phone do not show off the potential sound it can produce. The Denon earphones have a very warm kind of 'chocolatey' sound. The bass is extremely deep and punchy but, very importantly, not overpowering. The earphones can still push through the medium and higher frequencies extremely well, allowing you to hear every layer and instrument in the song. A lot of earphones become very 'hissy' at louder volumes because they can increase the medium and higher frequencies easily, but struggle with the lower frequencies. These simply do not do that. I'm astonished how they can create a sound so perfect but not loose quality and still maintain that perfect balance of frequencies at higher volumes. But please be prepared to allow them to 'burn in' if you buy them. I've had mine a month now and they sound fantastic, but they sounded flat when I first bought them; but it is easily worth the wait. I bought mine on offer from £89.99 to £34.99, which I think is just a stupendously cheap price. I would happily pay the full price and more for these. I cannot recommend them enough.
