Book Description

23 Nov 2012
"After careful consideration and contemplation involving far too much alcohol I am resigned to the fact that I hate my life. I am a single thirty-one year old woman, living alone in my two bed terrace on the outskirts of Leeds. I have no job and three failed relationships, the last ending when the bastard bit me, seriously, this guy drew blood." Faith Thomlinson's life isn't living up to expectations, her dull monotonous life had been interrupted by the wealthy enigmatic Jonathan. It's a shame that he isn't all he seems, or is that he is more than he seems? Jonathan holds a bloody secret that will endanger Faith's life and challenge everything she thinks she knows. Adele Carrington is the new name in Urban Fantasy. A truly British book that takes you on page turning journey of Denial

5.0 out of 5 stars Not into vampire stories? 19 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Neither am I! Or at least I didn't think I was until I read this book! The author, Adele, was taking part in the 'Battle of the Books' for Lex, a special little boy with cancer, so to help raise funds for him I decided to give it a go and buy it, and boy was I glad I did! Totally hooked from start to finish, I found myself taking longer and longer lunchbreaks as I just didn't want to put it down! The heroine was so believable and so easy to relate to, the villains were well crafted and believable too. I even enjoyed the history lesson on the Varcolac. All in all a very enjoyable read, and I can't wait for the follow up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read 21 Aug 2013
By Sal
Format:Kindle Edition
I had this book bought for me as a birthday present, it was the first vampire book that I have read and i am pleased i did as i was gripped from the beginning. The plot is brilliant, the main charachter Faith is so believable, she is a normal working woman trying to come to terms with abnormal events in her life. The villian in the story tuns out to be from Faiths past and he keeps popping up when she does not expect it and turns her world upside down again. I would deffinatly reccomend this book to fans of vampire books, lots of blood, action and suspense, amazing:-) cant wait to see if there will be a follow up as i would deffinatly read another book by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very British Vampire 17 Jan 2013
By Bee
Format:Paperback
I'm a fan of vampire literature and as most of it is from US authors I was interested to read this British take on the genre. I found the story original, witty and modern. Faith, the main character, could be any girl in any city so it is easy to empathise with her as she goes on her journey of Denial. The story is firmly set in the north of England but Faith also travels and I enjoyed seeing new cities through her eyes. The end is particularly well written and atmospheric and completely in keeping with the vampire myth.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent take on the vampire myth 28 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback
A gripping read for those looking for a new twist on the vampire legend.

A far cry from the teenage romances that dominate contemporary vampire fiction, 'Denial' instead harks back to the European folklore which inspired Bram Stoker. It wears this influence very much on its sleeve - the climax of the novel is an exciting showdown in Whitby - but manages to do so whilst being firmly rooted in the present day and without seeming clichéd.

Faith, the main character, is well-written, likeable and easy to root for. However, like all the best horror, it is the villains of the piece who steal the show. Without giving too much away, one of my favourite sections of the novel was the totally believable backstory given to the vampires (or varcolacs as they are called here) along with a well-developed set of morals and motives. There is plenty of material here for either prequels or sequels and I look forward to reading either (or both!).

More mature than Twilight and closer to the spirit of Stoker than True Blood, Ms Carrington just might have found an interesting way forward for the modern vampire.
