Each item in the Denby Imperial Blue set is solid, sturdy and nothing like some of the very thin, delicate bone china that are common in many dinner services. But that doesn't stop it from feeling like a good quality piece of tableware which is equally at home for everyday use and also for the odd dinner party.
I love the intense outer blue colour on the underside and outer decorative ring of this salad plate; it is somewhere between Royal Blue and navy. The innermost part of the plate is white which means that any food you put onto it looks attractive.
All of the items in this set look great both individually and together as a set.
Things that I like about this plate:
* sturdy and solid but feels of a good quality
* intense blue colour outside which perfectly matches the rest of the Denby imperial blue items
* gold coloured edging around the outer edge of this plate
* high gloss finish, looks great both under artificial light and natural daylight
* it is a slightly unusual size, much larger than a standard side plate and smaller than a dinner plate - this gives it a lot of flexibility in its use. It is great for serving desserts which often swamp standard side plates.
* dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe
* can be purchased individually meaning that you can build your set up slowly as finances allow. Also, you can buy the exact number you need
* if you are having a dinner party it can be sat on top of the dinner plate from this service for extra added effect
* the plates stack well on top of each other for ease of storage
* many other items you can buy to individualise your set e.g. place mats, salt & pepper pots, glasses etc - all the colours co-ordinate really well.
Things to be aware of:
* these are fairly sturdy and may not fit the bill if you are after very fine bone china.
* If you are carrying a number of these they can be heavy
* as mentioned in the `pros' this is an unusual size for a plate and might not be suitable for someone who wants a traditional dinner plate and side plate.
