Beware of using the wrong tool on your teeth! This scaler is intended for use on the sides of the teeth above the gum line. It will not be effective between the teeth unless they are very wide apart.
The finish on the scaler is good; the tip has been rounded to prevent inadvertent cutting of the gum or scratching of the tooth enamel, and the outer curve of the tool also has softened edges. Only the inner edges (left and right) of the curve have a sharp right angle cut on them. I've posted a picture to help show this.
The mirror is basic, over the years I have used better, but it does magnify and is adequate for the job and at this price point one cannot quibble.
The plastic handles have a reasonable non-slip rubber grip, better than the all-metal ones.
As with all such tools, they should be sterilised before use. I use Steradent
Only gentle pressure should be used, with the long inner curved edge of the blade in contact with the scale. Be careful and follow the instructions on the packet. If you are in any doubt about using it ask your dentist FIRST; don't experiment and hope.
Be Warned. It is very easy to damage teeth and gums with careless application of this tool, or worse the wrong tool such as a probe or pick.
