2.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a failure 26 Jan 2011
By Chinatown Blue TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
I didn't find this quite as hysterical as some people seem to; it was more sad than comical in its failure. It is a low budget film, so you don't expect great things of the effects or stunts, but on that score it does do quite well (though the makeup artists really did get the short end of the budget - demons apparently sport vampire fangs and cheap contacts from the goth shops). And it is quite ambitious in its way, trying to use the pulp story to explore major issues such as ethics, religious dogma, sexuality and sin. But ultimately it is neither one thing nor another. There is too much talk for an action film, too much sex and violence for a philosophical one (and not enough sex for a porno, which considering the major demonic players are a succubus and Asmodeus the Prince of Lust is a bit odd). The dialogue is poor, too, and the establishment of character is very clumsy. The cast do try hard, but they are fighting a losing battle with leaden dialogue and bad continuity.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soo bad - it's hysterical 4 Jan 2008
Format:DVD
My daughter and I watched this film one boring afternoon and just roared with laughter through the whole film. This is not a horror film, it is a poker face of a Scary Movie. Talk about a mish mash of Constantine and every other demon type film, the visual plagerism was everywhere.

Sean Flanery begins by exorcising a young girl of a demon and beats the living daylights out of her. No wonder her mother protested so much. He had the worst script I have ever heard; he was like a walking dictionary, giving detailed explanations of words his co-stars happen to use in their sentences - maybe he was paid per word or something. His wardrobe was exactly what he wore on Boondock Saints. There was one strange scene where they got out of their car to buy a hotdog - they parked right beside the hotdog stand, ate a hotdog then walked 10 miles and suddenly appeared back in the car!

But it was soooo bad I have kept it in my dvd collection under 'Comedies'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silly but fun... 23 Nov 2006
By R. Gawlitta - Published on Amazon.com

"Demon Hunter" is NOT, by any stretch, a great film, but I enjoyed it for some serious action, and a better plot than most of the indie schlock of this genre. The film is actually enhanced by the shameless over-acting. Good thing I wasn't in a mood to take anything seriously...

5.0 out of 5 stars A PRETTY GOOD (THOUGH SOMEWHAT SHORT I THINK) MOVIE. 22 Mar 2006
By Linda K. Paff - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
I watched this movie today and well I liked it. It's about a man who is half-human/half-demon spawn who goes around killing demons and those humans the demons have posessed when exorcism fails. This is a very intersting topic for me. I have always loved supernatural thrillers. In my opinion this movie bears some resemblance to the "Blade" trilogy of movies as well as the "Dracula 2000" trilogy. "Constantine" and "The Order" (starring Heath Ledger)also come quickly to mind. If you liked any of those movies then I would really suggest giving this movie a try. The acting is good, the story is good and it definitely has a neat atmosphere to it. As far as cheesiness goes I don't think this movie was very cheesy at all. I know another reviewer said that but I disagree. I am giving this movie 5 stars because it is unique and intersting and it covers a subject of great interest to me. (And the fight scenes aren't too shabby either!) Okay now that's my 2 cents worth. Go out and rent this movie already! And write a review after you've seen it. :-) LKP.

5.0 out of 5 stars so much better than expected! 11 Aug 2010
By B. Verdonk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this dvd on a whim, because I think Sean Patrick Flanery's a decent actor and the topic interest me. I felt somewhat discouraged by all the reviews, as they were so negative. But man, am I glad that I bought this...
After reading some reviews I was expecting some silly implausable story with ramshackle acting, but that was absolutely not the case. Everything looks good, the acting is good, the story is interesting and I really enjoyed this film. As for the demons: 'suspend your disbelief' and simply enjoy the ride!!!
